Nope. They'll go after the big fish in Pietrangelo and hope its more than St Louis can afford. |

Peter Tessier: What the Flyers are Really up to
Some thoughts on what the Flyers might be planning with RFA defensemen. - Peter.Tessier
My gut feeling is that the Flyers are more interested in guys like Keith Yandle, Alex Edler and Kevin Shattenkirk than Dustin Byfuglien or Zach Bogosian.
Also, the 2014 entry draft is being held in Philadelphia, so it's very probable that the Flyers will make sure they have a first rounder, which precludes most offer sheets |

i agree with that and there have been some reasons for many years with many different rosters for them to trade. However...
I have it from some one very close to the Canucks executive (told to me privately and who is a very well known name in the media) who said they have never considered trading Schneider. If that's worth anything thing.
All that being said- as person who works in a Risk Assessment environment I can't leave Schnieder off the table due to the risk of not getting maximum return in any goalie deal.
I just don't see what it has to be Philly to deal him too. |

Good point which is why I think they use an offer sheet as leverage. By my understanding had they succeeded with Weber they would have given up that 2014 first rounder right? |

Yes, but in their way of thinking, that was for Weber, who they saw as a Pronger replacement.
I don't think they have their sights set that high this time. Of course, they may very well do something out of left field, because they're the Flyers. |

They don't have the space to fit him in with a big offer. |

Yeah the last time they did that it worked out real well. Ruined any relationship for the future players with Nashville, Didn't get the player and got stuck with Luke Schenn and the boys on defence. |

They had traded for Schenn about three weeks before the offer sheet |

You can't hedge an offer sheet anymore. Essentially the CBA now dictates how contracts are structured. There is no option for front end loading with cash premiums (like Weber, Suter and Parise) or back end discounting by general averaging the cap downward by adding on some low number over the last few years of the deal (Kovalchuck, Hossa).
Philadelphia can overpay for a particular asset. But, they end up with one more problematic contract. And, they surrender draft picks scaled to the magnitude of the offer. Essentially they risk becoming a double loser.
The Flyers would be wise to do an old fashioned hockey trade. If you really want something good it normally costs you fair value. |

Whether you use yesterday's legal advice on offering huge front end money or going 8 years at the max it's still another team dictating the terms and that can be dangerous.
I'm not saying it's a bod move for the Flyers I'm just saying it's a move they could make to force something else to happen. |

It's an interesting theory in OS Bogo to trade for Big Buff. So, if Buff is eating his way to defensive tackle for the Blue Bombers, the question becomes what is his trade value? |

If the Flyers want to go anwhere they need to diversify and get a puck moving defenseman that can skate and create off the rush. So what if the guy is 5'10" if he is not afraid to get hit to make the play. See the Hawks defensive group. |

They didn't have the space last time (with Weber) either. If they got AP they would quickly buyout a couple contracts and be fine. If they offered max term and max $ you think St Louis would match? |

The rumors at the trade deadline lend credence to your theory. It makes sense on several levels.
As a Flyers fan, there is probably no deal the Jets would accept that I wouldn't think was an overpayment for Byfuglien...under normal circumstances. But if they are using the RFA threat to strong-arm the Jets...maybe it could actually work.
If they could get Kane involved in a bigger deal I'd be more excited.

Sorry Bill,
I hope you are totally wrong on this one. We do not need anyone with a major weight problem like that. I like Big Buff but why go through all of that. The Flyers just have to find a trade partner in which they win the trade. I would trade the entire team if I knew I going to get a better one back and win the cup. Because, that should be all that matters. I would trade Giroux for the right deal. Multiple high firsts, this year and next, a top 4 forward and a top 4 defender.
The Flyers should amnesty both Bryz and Danny. Give whatever to LA for Bernier.
Try and sign N. Horton and attempt to get another pick in this draft. Question people; Would you trade Giroux for A. Ladd, Z. Begosian, 13th pick and next years #1 from Winnipeg? They get star power and we get 4 players. |

is Read, the 11th Pick and Gus too much and yet not enough for Elder? |

No.
Their are 3 players I would trade Giroux for and they are Crosby, Malkin or Stamkos. Since none of those players are being moved to philly move on.
On a team that was offensively challenged you are going to trade the only player that has averaged a point or more a game over the past 2 seasons.
The Flyers can improve their team in multiple ways without moving their only superstar.
