It's a good rule...except it's just another judgement call that's going to piss people off constantly |

I want it. It will help some major injuries.
But everybody will hate it when it happens to them. Just like everything.
There is no winning for NHL officiating. |

They should stick with touch icing and get rid of the trapezoid so that the goalies can come out and get the puck if it looks like his dman is going to lose the race. If they switch to hybrid icing, there is still a chance that someone will get hurt in the race for the puck but instead of the dman it will be the forward that is winning the race getting ran into the end boards. |

It's okay... I don't like the idea of refs having more responsibility though. |

As long as Brodeur is still playing, the trapezoid isn't going anywhere. Such a bullpoop rule to begin with |

I guess when a goalie scores more goals in a season than some players, they have to do something.

I hate Brodeur and the Devils, but that trapezoid is a crime. Just because the guy is the best of all time at doing something doesn't mean you should change the rules to negate his skills. |

I guess it's better than nothing, but I'd rather no-touch icing. |

At least go to hybrid icing, though really I think it should go all the way to no touch. Take the judgment of the referee and the chance of an unavoidable, high-risk, low reward collision completely out of the equation.
Sure you lose that once-every-few-games race where the forechecker is actually even close, or even beats out the touch and creates a chance. But you know what? Who cares? Nobody goes to hockey games to watch players leg out icing calls.
Make the game safer and all it costs is the removal of one semi-rare, moderately-at-best exciting play that might lead to one goal per season per team? That seems like a no-brainer to me. |

It's not all necessarily about the team that ices the puck getting a chance, but the chance the other team will be getting. A faceoff in the offensive zone with tired players on the ice. If an attacking skater can easily out skate the defender or even if its close, its not really fair if it gets blown down immediately. |

What about the forward getting smashed into the end boards? Just go with no touch icing, it will be as seamless as taking the red line out. |

I'm for letting it play out in preseason before making a final decision. We need to take a serious look at it for the overall health of the players. |

It's only "not fair" because we're used to the rule the way it is. No-touch has been the rule in Europe for over 20 years.
I say if somebody shoots or passes the puck from their side of center and can't connect with a teammate before it crosses the goal line, I'm fine with calling that icing regardless of who can get to the puck first. It's not like you're taking a legitimate strategy out of the playbook. Nobody intentionally ices the puck because they think their forechecker can beat out the call. It's just that every now and then the forechecker is fast enough to cover the mistake. |

Move icing from behind the red line to behind the defending blue line. As soon as you reach the neutral zone, you can dump the puck. This will cut down on stoppages and make the game faster. |

absolutely not!!!! takes away from the game.. they are professionals, not pee wee.. they know the risks.. they already have destroyed the fun of competition, with this whole everybody wins bs, turning what should be good competitive fun into a wussy fest because there is nothing to play for if everyone wins..they know the risks, let em play! stop trying to make everything so safe, theres a point when its going over board, and its happening now!. just like my rambling!! but I think I made my point |

How far back would you like to go? Straight sticks? Pucks kept on the ice? No helmets or goalie mask? A couple guys with brooms and a hose to 'resurface' the ice? Chicken wire instead of plexi-glass?
The game and players evolve. It's not 1917 anymore. |

Absolutely not. One of my favorite plays is when a player starts 5 strides behind a defender but it able to outrace him and negate icing.
I understand that injuries happen when 2 players go full steam ahead into the boards. But I'd wager that don't involve trying to touch up icings, so let's just eliminate hitting on all plays. Also, I've seen players/officials get cut by skates, so let's just eliminate them, and the players can wear snow shoes. Also, that puck is very hard, it could hurt someone, so let's make it a nerf ball. Lastly, those sticks get swung around and could maybe hurt someone one day, so let's give them all styrofoam sticks. Can't possibly have someone get hurt in a contact sport, right? |
