Reminds me a lot of Carl Hagelin, like a #7 forward. I remember a lot of people thought he was a big steal in that draft so maybe he can surprise us all.

Garth really needs to learn what a good prospect is. There's like 2 players on that list that have the potential to be a first line or d pairing and myers is going into his 4th or 5th year so he's not even close to a prospect

Ristolainen might not become dominant but he's got what it takes to be really good hockey player (top 2 D). And Jake McCabe id say McCabe's got an outside shot at that as well.

As far as getting a dominant player goes, everyone here knows there's only one foolproof way of getting those players and we haven't sucked enough in the last decade to get there.

Though it's easy to say this in retrospect, I'd argue that our prospect pool now looks much better than this one. Ristolainen and Grigorenko probably have a higher ceiling than everyone there except maybe Myers.

Ristolainen might not become dominant but he's got what it takes to be really good hockey player (top 2 D). And Jake McCabe id say McCabe's got an outside shot at that as well.

There's other ways to get star players. You could draft well which the sabres dont exactly do or sign top free agents but who wants to play in buffalo or you could trade but the sabres aren't willing to trade prospects and picks

The islanders also have some of the best defensive prospects in the league and their forwards are weak so trading okposo wouldn't make any sense at all

Of course there are other ways, I said foolproof way is at the top of the draft.

1) The sabres have drafted decently when you consider they hadn't picked in the top 10 in over a decade before this year. Unlike the Avalanche who put the uck in suck in the last 5 years

2) Free agents go wherever the money is and where they can compete for a cup so obviously they aren't going to come here if were rebuilding. And in order to become competitive again, you have to acquire elite talent so see my first point. Besides when was the last time the Avalanche signed a big ticket free agent?

3). What rebuilding team trades away picks and prospects for veteran players? If they are bad enough next year they won't have to trade anyone because they'll finally be bad enough to get a player to build around.
