I couldn't see them taking under $6 million a year (each) on an extension, I know they are a UFA package deal & would be very hard to leave "together" to the same team, but under $6 mill is low, maybe the same salaries would be closer

I don't think there is any way they sign only a 3 year deal. I think a bit longer of a term is what they will be looking for, even if it is for a bit less per year. No player wants to come off of a contract at the age of 36.

They've come out of their peak years and are now back to their PPG pace IMO, which is not out of the question for them to maintain over the next three years. A three year deal would be the max I'd extend to them, $5.5 million per.

Not to sound like a Richard, but why was Jiri Tlusty included in the list of comparable players/cap hit? Brings the average of the salary way down. Come his next contract, he'll see much more coin than the 1.6 mill he is making now.

That's kind of my number to, but are you really going to let them go over half a million?

Sam Gagner is a bad comparison any way you look at it! He's never reached 50 points in a full season

38 points last year works out to 65-70 points. Sedin-like totals

It was based off of last seasons point totals. Gagner was right there with Daniel.

I hate half season comparisons

Maintaining over an 82 game schedule is the only real comparison IMO.

strange this team, especially with the cap going down, and the twins another year older didn't buy out (cbo) Booth, he's making top 6 $ to sit in the trainers room for 2 years?

This team's biggest need, (the D is set, Goalie, 4 solid top 6 forwards, is another scoring winger & his cap hit hurts them contributing zilch.

It will be interesting to see the length. In the past, Hank has suggested playing year-to-year, so maybe it's just a one year deal.

I think three is the number.

Booth is currently injured and hasn't been cleared to play, can't buy out an injured player.

What would you offer them on July 5th (or whatever the date is now)?

nothing, because it's a package deal, even with the cap going up, what team would have $12-15 million available for a combined 2 signings, thats what makes this situation different then others

although, Nashville, (if they ever figured out you need goals to win), could be a possible destination, 4 years $27 million each

I get that part obviously, but come contract time for Jiri, he won't be making 1.6 mill again. Doesn't make much sense to include him in a list with players signed to long term deals because of the same amount of production the have done in the past to get those contracts. Artificially reduces the cap hit you were crunching.

While your cap numbers work Ian, your actual salary is violation of the CBA, no? 20% variance in any yr of the contract I believe.

Thank you .

This is exactly what Canucks have to be careful of. It is a package deal and Canucks can do really really good or sink their franchise. They need a hometown discount and use the extra money to bring in some support.
