I don't think things change much from the last two years. Weak division draft 25 th get ass kicked in first round. I think changes come in another two years ,so let the show begin. |

Why? What is the big difference from last year that we made over the summer?
Torts?
This reminds me of a scenario where they bring in a very famous teacher to educate a bunch of morons . After the year she increases their learning ability from moron to dummies. If the talent isn't there even some improvement may not be enough.
Poor analogy, but sorry, I don't think the talent is there right now, in the first place.
THis should get Ian some hits
Off to work now |

I don't think so, I don't think we win the Stanley Cup, but I think this year we at least get out of the first round. Nobody will be dogging it on this team with Torts in the room. Not much might have changed, but the talent still is there, and the Olympics is going to screw a lot of teams up that might have otherwise had good seasons via injuries. |

I don't see Torts turning Sedins into Raw Raw leaders, I don't see him making Edler make smarter decisions. Sometimes the talent just isn't there. I think as I said for a long time Canucks fall into 10-16 best team in the league talent wise and have benifitted for playing in weak divisions.
I see our competition increasing this year but not enough to make us miss the playoffs. With all the turmoil of this team I wouldn't be surprised to miss the PO but I do think we will make it and a first round exit. |

Let me try to help -- Unless Roberto's game picks up a lot because he isn't sad any more it sure looks like a big downgrade in net. Hard to see how enough big improvements elsewhere to overcome replacing the guy ranked 4th in save % and 8th in GAA with a guy ranked 25th and 31st in those two catagories. - Canada Cup
Lu has trained hard and is determined to be the best ,but will he stop flopping and being the first to commit ? He can change his mental game but did he do enough training and restyling to change his physical game? |

Well, you could base Luongo's ability on a larger sample size than an abbreviated season in which he was a party to a goalie controversy, and many teammates—including almost the entire D corps—had their worst season in years, and their number two center (and best PKer) and number two LW missed the majority of the season to injury...
Hard to imagine things going as poorly for the Canucks as last season. |

That's exactly what he's there to do. His job is to help players like Edler make smarter decisions, to put them in positions to succeed, and to motivate. That is coaching. It's what has been lacking in Vancouver for years. |

The thing with Lu is last years numbers get inflated by a couple of bad games.
Take out the 7 and 8 goal games and you have a goalie that is a lot closer to elite than the numbers make it look.

His numbers dropped the year before as well. Still a good goalie but hasn't been as good as the guy you got rid of so hard to see this year's team as a big improvement unless it is result of fewer injuries |

Totally agree. The team hung him out to dry in a couple of games which just crushed his numbers due to the small sample size of a shortened season. He was much better throughout the season than his numbers will lead you to believe. |

Anyone else notice that Kadri signed less than 48 hours after Raymond got offered a PTO? Leverage applied! |

I said Luongo might be better than his 25th and 31st ranked gaa and sv% from last season would lead someone to believe. |

Surprised me.
I figured he would hold out and see what happens with the Leafs.
I know a lot of people like to bring up that Subban caved last season, but a lot of that was due to the 4-1 start the team had without him - he pretty much had to give in because the team was playing great without him.
If they had started 1-4 you have to wonder if the Canadiens would have upped the offer.
I wonder if Franson will roll the dice and see how important he is to the Leafs? |

It's tough for these guys to try and hold out. The market has been set for them now and they have virtually no leverage. Realistically the only option they have is to try and sign offer sheets, which will be especially difficult this year with the cap dropping. As someone noted recently, those who have money don't have cap space and those who have cap space don't have money.
I don't see an offer to Franson drastically improving based on the Leafs performance on the ice to start the season. They've likely identified what they'll pay for him and drawn the line in the sand. He'll cave eventually, just depends how long he'll wait. |
