Very disappointing news with Despres. I was hoping he would make that big jump this year after being neglected last year. To me, this is a make or break season for him, especially with some of the guys we have on the cusp of making the roster in the not too distant future.

He definitely seems like a guy who can pretty much do anything hockey-related if he wants to.

Your points are spot on in regards to Despres and the 3rd line.

I'm stunned the kid would come to camp not fully prepared to take a spot. Just like when Staal forced their hands as a rookie, Despres should have made the idea of keeping Nisk a joke.

I really don't think the impact of losing Pronger can be overstated. He would've slowed down, no doubt, but he was one of the smartest players I've seen in my time as a fan (admittedly, not as long as many).

Of course he sustains the one type of injury he can't play through.
