Leaving his feet? Yes, but looked like it was more after contact to me. He will likely get 1 game for it. Josi shouldn't turn with the puck luck that unless he wants to get killed.. |

I guess no suspension.. He didnt target the head and his hip was the contact point not an elbow or anything. Downie is no angel but when it is slowed down, he is on his feet at the point of contact. |

I think your comment about looking at the hit through gold coloured glass is bang on... Prior to the hit, Downie is seen coasting into the zone, he takes two strides right before he makes contact nullifying a charge. Josi has his head down and Downie's feet don't leave the ice until after the initial contact is made (similar to the J. Nolin hit from the Kings). Downie finishes his hits hard, and this was the result of Josi getting caught with his head down. Just my two cents... |

It looked worst in real time than slow-mo.

Yea. This was a fine hit. This is definitely being seen through Preds-colored glasses. |

the people have spoken clean hit
edit:

no charge as you see him take 2 strides and coasts into josi
it looks like the hip/chest are principal contact
he appears to move upwrads, the hit reminds me of a kronwall type hit, he "jumps" but but isnt leaping into the player attemping to hit the head
imo a 2 minute penalty works for this
josi was vulnerable, but you can see josi looks right at downie, knows its coming[/img] |

I thought Downie left his feet when I first saw it happen. He didn't, but it was close!
I think a lot of people are jumping to conclusions because of WHO threw the hit, not the actual hit itself.
Hopefully Josi isn't gone for too long, especially with the Preds' slow start. |

Clean hit and a beauty. - systemtool
Stupid play by Josi. An NHL needs to be more aware. |

The Preds simply stink, whether they have a fast, slow or medium paced start. Let's be honest about this. It ain't getting better, any time soon. |

I think you're over-reacting to it. When an NHL player gets tagged like that it's usually because they've put themselves in a vulnerable position, see Lars Eller last year.
Some players will let up, others won't. It was a solid body check, last I checked, that is allowed in the league. |

I want Downie suspended for the rest of the season, but only because I missed out on him for my fantasy draft and PIMs are huge in my league!
Looking at the hit objectively though, nothing about it looks really dirty. Everyone else has already outlined the reasons why. It was just a really hard hit, delivered to a young player who turned right into it. The only people calling for a suspension are those who have a hate on for Downie (and there's lots of good reasons for that) and can't look past the name on the jersey and look at the actual play objectively. |

Well, I did get Lucic early and retained The Rat from last year because +/- on the 3rd line is big too. I got Neil and McLeod for some extra goonage but I knew Downie would get top 6 time and the Avs top 6 is getting better every year. |

Seth Jones looks like a stud out there. Some of the plays he makes and maneuvers that he does... you normally see that type of stuff from a veteran, not a rookie. |

I'm a Predators fan and I've been arguing with fans since the hit that it wasn't suspension worthy and I'm not surprised in the least that there is no league review. You can't carry the puck into a corner with your head down. Weber was tied up with his guy so I'm guessing there was no communication about Downey coming on the forecheck. He is bent over slightly and when he raises his head and sees Downey he ducked further down. He took the brunt of the check with his chin because he ducked and wasn't aware of him coming until the last minute. Downey's feet didn't leave the ice until after the contact. It looks like a hit on a defenseless player but a player with the puck should not be considered defenseless in my opinion. If he had jumped into him and hit him with a forearm shiver (Burrows v Dumont) than a long suspension would be in order. Not in this case.
I'm more concerned about the play of Shea Weber which no one wants to to discuss. He has had absolutely zero impact in the last 40 games or so. I mean he is playing solid defense for sure but he is no where near the level he was at before the Suter departure. He isn't playing with any 'edge' on a consistent basis. The Preds need more of the angry Shea to set the tone. |

Oh snap! I compiled possibly the douchiest line in my league with Lucic, Marchand, Burrows and Neil. McLeod sits unless I'm falling behind in PIMs. Rotisserie scoring system. |

It's a borderline charging penalty, but not really anything more than that. Tough hit though, but I don't think that's a suspension at all. He didn't hunt him down or anything, he was already halfway into the zone when Josi got the puck.
I get why the Predators didn't like it though. But not a suspension. |

Good hit - maybe 2 mins for leaving his feet at most. It would have been difficult for him to actually avoid him, and he has to make that hit, if not he would get it from the coach. (Hear the crowd....they loved a good body check as they should) |

B/c Toronto is the model of excellence in the league.
