Pens shot blocking was great last night but at the same time, too man times they left flower scrambling for the rebound. and even tho flower made some great saves, if he would control his rebounds better and cover that damn puck, it would have been 3-0!

Agree about burts> engels

Nisk played another solid game and I wonder if he gets moved right when Letang gets back

Saw the same bad habit as I did all of last year. Pens dominate the first, get frustrated/mad/whiny/entitled that they only scored 1 and let the opposition take over for a large part of the game.

Nice to get the win but I would really like to see 60 minutes of effort the way they usually play the first 10. I think if we ever see that the score will reflect it.

Scuderi has been the best signing of the offseason. He probably saved 3 goals last night. So great to have him back.

Agree. Teams with speed really get the Pens scrambling especially in the neutral zone. The 2nd period looked an awful lot like some of those games in the Isle series last year.

I saw some trapping in the 3rd and they regained their footing. Thank you Jaques Martin.

It would be nice if Geno had any interest in challenging for the "best player in the world" title. Still a point per game, but looking bad in doing so.

Thank God Sid continues to prove he's worthy of that accolade.

I just saw bits and pieces of the game last night. How did Maatta look? I saw he was a -2, but we know how misleading that stat can be at times.

It's amazing his poise with the puck. Very underrated aspect in setting up Kunitz goal. He's developed so much from age 30 on.

But that's thie thing that irks me. They forechecked the crap out of Edmonton in the first and it neutralized their speed because they couldn't get the puck long enough to complete a pass. Then when the horn sounded to start the 2nd they stopped.

If Fleury isn't standing on his head we lose that game by 2 or 3 goals.

That one play (think in the 3rd) where he took the puck from an Oiler behind the net and started up the wing, turned and passed back and forth with Orpik (i think) until the Edmonton line changed was a thing of beauty. So simple. Letang or Niskanen would have lost that puck trying to skate it out.

Rich Miller ‏@pensbender now
Only one Penguin has not been on the ice for a goal against this season, that Penguin is Chuck Kobasew.

$550k, and has 2 more goals this season than the last guy who wore his number as a Penguin

The only thing ad I saw but was a smart play too was when hemsky scored, Maatta stopped the puck from going in and pushed it to put it under flower, but he did it so hard that the puck bounced off flower right to hemsky for the goal....

other than that, he played like a pro and should be up. but DB (frank)s with young talented guys and will send him to jrs....

On that play he should have tied Hemsky's stick up and he made a few other errors but overall he's been rock solid on the season. I hope he stays.

For as crummy they played in the 2nd, they did an excellent job in the last 5 minutes. Very calm, composed coming out of the defensive zone. No need to speed out of there into Edmonton playing 5 guys behind the red line with 2 minutes left.

i dont think hemsky was even near him, i think he was playing short side and stopped the puck and hemsky just went to the net for the rebound... you could be right tho.. I wasnt focusing on maatta to notice the other things, I WAS noticing how they still arent shooting on PPs

I said this to Dejan last night on twitter and he basically attacked me. He always does that. Smug little (frank)er over twitter. He hasn't been shy about his love for Maatta. I pointed out he was a minus 2 and playing the puck instead of a stick on the goals. He didn't agree

Interesting stat I saw. Penguins have allowed 5 goals in 4 home games while allowing 10 goals in 2 road games. Obviously it is a extremely low # of games to take seriously but it may be worth wild keeping an eye on.

I agree with a few comments above about seeing them play an entire 60 minutes would be nice but at least we got the W.

plus 100. Kid has been great but he's made mistakes. He also turned the puck over in the neutral zone with a bad pass. I still think he is one of our top 6 on the roster. Everyone wants to trade Nisk to keep him and Nisk has been terrific.
