Major hose job on Long Island. Moulson would have cost a whole lot less to re-sign in NY than Vanek will be. And Vanek won't score that many more. |
|
|
|
hahahaha you got owen by the worst GM in the league. Vanek is walking to Minnesota on July 1. Thanks for your first round pick |
|
|
|
The Islanders should fire Garth Snow. Seriously, the UFA for UFA trade makes sense. But to lose a 1st & 2nd round pick. It would have made more sense if they were conditional picks subject to Vanek re-signing. I feel bad for the Islander fans, they deserve better than this. |

I'm going to offer you Islanders fans some semblance of hope. Vanek, as it's been documented by the media, is open to remaining on a young team. This year, the Islanders are still a reasonably young team with much more NHL talent than the Sabres currently employ. Vanek has publicly stated that he'd be open to remaining on this young rebuilding team had he seen progress and what would seem as a short rebuild time ala the Senators. That is clearly not the case on this team. The Islanders are years into their rebuild and I agree with Garth Snow that the team is better than their record indicates. I can't say the same thing about the Sabres obviously.
What I'm really getting at is that I think the Islanders have a much higher chance of signing Vanek because he's a team guy and he probably will like the direction the Islanders are going in. They even have a new future in Brooklyn.
Of course I could be wrong. He could end up in Minnesota July 1st. But I believe the Islanders have a decent shot of keeping him. I'm also willing to bet Vanek told Darcy to pull the trigger on any trades he has in the works after this atrocious ten game trial run. He sees what this team is. A rebuild year one of at least 3. He's not into that and I doubt Miller is either. |

Vanek and Moulson won't sign for the same team. It just doesn't make sense. They're top line left wingers. One stays, one goes. In the end you'll get one of them at least and we'll get a first and a second at least. So is the business. |

I would have much more preferred to acquire Ryan Strome in this deal somehow (instead of the 1st rd pick)... maybe he'll be part of a Miller deal. However, by the end of this season, I will be floored if all Islanders fans are not thrilled with Vanek and what he is going to be able to do with a legitimate franchise Center. He'll likely re-sign because of that opportunity, too... Minnesota has nothing at Center that even comes close to JT. Plus, Vanek will have a sense of obligation for what the Isles gave up for him. |

Once that Heatley contract comes off the books the Wild are going to throw the kitchen sink at him. They didnt sign Parise and Suter to not make a serious run at a cup. |

ryan smyth cost the Isles next to nothing Dee, none of the players or picks traded for him ever sniffed the NHL at a contributing level.
This is a risk, but Moulson is brutal defensively, is dependant on having someone feed him the puck and he's too slow up and down the ice. He's money in front of the net on the PP, but that's it. we saw it last year in the playoffs and again so far this year. He's not going to score 20 as a sabre.

One more point... I've read from time to time that Vanek and Grabner are friends, as well. So while you'll read Wild fans say he's going to Minny to play with Parise, they probably don't even know each other outside of the rink (Stafford is friends with Parise, not Vanek). In case you haven't heard it already... the assumption that he will sign with the Wild is based on his wife being from the area, his offseason home being in Minnesota and he played his college hockey there... then Pomminville was traded there and they were neighbors and close friends in Buffalo. Most of those things won't change if he re-signs with the Islanders... so if this season goes well for you guys, he'll be worth the long-term assets (draft picks) as well. |

Darcy just bent Snow over and gave it to him. Holy smokes! |

I would personally rather have Moulson than Vanek straight up. |

or.............if they don't make the playoffs, he demands a ton of money, there will be tears on the Island. I have a feeling Garth Snow's job depends on how this works out.....maybe. Of course I would think he would have been fired for the DiPietro deal. haha |

then you haven't watched him skate and play defense or even strength the last year and 10 games. |

Her's my two cents on the trade. I liked Matt Moulson but Thomas Vanek is a blue chip forward. When teams play the Islanders they'll have to worry about not only Tvares but Vanek too. I think Vanek gets signed by the Islanders because he'll be playing in a large market like NYC. |

At least he back checks though, maybe I'm wrong but if I was you I'd be pissed. And there is no way Tavares is happy about this. |

If you think Vanek plays any defense at all, you're going to be severely disappointed. Great hands around the net, though. |

What do you mean by a large market though? The Rangers are but the Islanders aren't an bigger a market than Buffalo. |
