It's been a treat on this sad anniversary to read your-and your father's-thoughts on Pelle Lindbergh.

As a kid, I remember watching him, and most Flyers fans were devastated by his untimely death. The tributes from his many friends and former teammates speaks to the man and his life.

Thanks for giving us your take.

Here's hoping the medallion continues to help you.

Thanks for the insight and continue to do the name proud!

I was also quite young when Pelle died, but I was already a fan and was saddened by his death. Thank you for sharing with us.

What a wonderful story, Erik. Like your dad, I was fortunate enough to know Pelle well, and even though he and your dad were very unlike each other in their backgrounds (and physical size), they were very much alike in their dedication to the game, their teammates, and their wonderfully outgoing and friendly personalities. What a spiritually meaningful keepsake that medallion is for you to have to connect you with your namesake. For me my own keepsake of Gump is the stick that he used in the final game of the 1981 Calder Cup finals that he gave me as we were flying back after the game from Glens Falls, NY, to Portland, ME. You would have loved knowing Pelle yourself, Erik --- everybody he touched did -- and always treasure that medallion that connects the two of you as I know you certainly will.

Many thanks, Erik, to you and your Dad for sharing your stories! I remember visiting the scene of the accident a day or two later and welling up in complete shock and disbelief at what had happened there a day or two prior. So on this sad day, it's great to read tributes like these to such a wonderful player and man!

Thanks again for sharing!

Being from Pittsburgh and having the Flyers as a heated rival, I still remember how low I felt at seeing the news that day. I was only 20 at the time and had not seen many athletes lose their life in the prime of their career. On days like that, hockey fans everywhere are all on the same team and that animosity no longer exists. I'm glad you are keeping Pelle's name and spirit alive.

Even though I am Penguins fan, Pelle was my favorite goalie growing up as a kid. He was on his way to be something very special and elite. It was a very sad day when he passed.

As a huge hockey fan I remember exactly where I was when I heard of Pelle's tragedy. Heartbraking then and still heartbraking now. I remember I saw him play for the Maine Mariners back in the day. I used to frequent many AHL games which is a luxury living in the Boston area and being able back then to drive to Providence, Springfiled, New Haven and protland quite easily... Nice article
