I have no idea what segment of fanbase your speaking for in regards to the Downie trade. Most everbody on this site liked the trade for the Flyers, I still like it now even after what happened last night. I'm not sure why you freely speak for the fans. |

There were a lot of folks on twitter who hated the Downie trade. I have no idea why. The Flyers got a better, younger player that filled an obvious need.
I'd make that trade 6 days a week and twice on Sunday |

I'd rather run Downie out there than have to watch Raffl for another game.

Tim, this post is a mess! You need an editor or something. There is a large section of repeated text. Clean it up, man!
Also, I agree with the others that Downie brings a lot to the table. The team's third-line play has been vastly improved since the trade. Everyone - including me - liked Talbot but I think Downie will help the team (actually, he already has helped the team). |

Wow.
Why not just type, "I don't like Steve Downie" and save everybody some time?
The guy took a lazy stick foul yesterday in a period where nobody did a whole lot of anything other than play not to lose. So yes, it wasn't a great penalty to take, but isn't this a bit over the top?
I'm glad Steve Downie's here; he's helping to balance the lines and he's contributing to the offense and damn near broke his face for the team.
He's not perfect...and neither is anyone else on the roster. One stick foul on a bad sequence of play isn't making me, or anybody else who is sane, want to run the guy out of town. |

Exactly -- It was a stick infraction; Panaccio's making it sound like Downie boarded the guy, then cross-checked him while he was down, then sucker-punched him when he got up.

agreed. Plus I don't know what Tim is reading into Mason about. Giroux's been stating for weeks that Mason has remained upbeat and has not blamed anyone for the lack of Offense nor did I get any sense that he was any more angry than anyone else on the team for the disappointing end.
Mason is a guy who has been the struggling weak link on a Hockey team and knows it's difficult. His struggles in Columbus makes him the last person to chastise a teamate over a bad play. |

Tim,
What are you talking about?? Trading Talbot for Downie was a good trade. Talbot is great on the PK, but he will never get close to 20 goals in one year again. Talbot is a great 4th line player, but putting him on the 3rd line really hurts the 3rd line offensively. Hall has filled in nicely on the 4th line and the PK. Downie brings a lot more speed, along with some scoring ability. Couts/Read/Downie is not a bad 3rd line combo and has the chance to score some goals. |

do you not realize that some people remember how poorly you have always spoken of steve downie? including saying he had mental issues and other comments that anyone with the slightest bit of professionalism would not print? |

Just wanted to say Tim certainly doesn't speak for me and I gather, does not speak for much of the "fanbase" he apparently thinks he speaks for.
I'm actually pretty happy with the Downie trade...despite the ill-advised penalty there, he's played some good two-way hockey and hasn't gotten too carried away with undisciplined or dirty play. The PK is still doing ok with guys like Hall, Couturier and Rinaldo and G.
Downie's addition has allowed the lines to be more balanced and skilled, evidenced by the increased offensive cohesion since the lines were set (with Downie playing with Read and Couturier).
I don't think it is entirely coincidental that the Avalanche have come back down to Earth while the Flyers have come back from the abyss since the trade.
Talbot, good guy and all, has hardly been missed. |

"he's (Downie) still a bully with no conscience and no respect for his fellow player. That's not the type of player who (should) be wearing orange and black. It makes you wonder whether Downie is simply a younger version of Billy Tibbetts." - Tim P. 2006. |

I didn't mind when the Flyers traded him away. He was a problem child, coming off the long suspension for the McAmmond hit and the incident with the Phantoms. But to his credit, he went out and made himself a very solid NHLer.
He still has some issues with his discipline, but he's a very versatile player that you can plug in anywhere. |
