Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 12/7/13 @ Dallas - bmeltzer
Good morning Bill
How's the weather/roads down there? Will you be able to make the game?
Anyhow if you are going, drive safe and have fun. I'll be watching the game today from the Rum Barrel in Key west!

Hey, Bill,
Is it easier to write the blog for both of these teams when they are playing each other? |

Flyers need to keep their feet moving and establish a hard forecheck today if they are going to pull out a victory. Also staying out of the penalty box would help too! |

A smiling Couturier after being told the Flyers had notched just their second win in Detroit since 1988: "I wasn't even born back then."

OK, what is the deal with the "back spasms". Do you think that is the standard euphemism for something more serious?
It always makes me nervous when we start getting these mysterious injuries.

Seguin's linemate, Stars captain Jamie Benn, has been in a point drought of late. He has just one assist in the last five games and has gone eight games without a goal.
The Flyers have always seemed to be the best ailment for those in slumps. I'd keep a watchful eye on Benn today and get Cooter's line out there as much as possible against him.
I'm looking forward to watching Valeri Nichushkin. I expect nothing but great things from this kid in the future. |

I concur...lol
Is Mason confirmed for today? If so, I wonder if Emery gets Ottawa or Chicago? Mase had been lights out vs Ottawa since getting here, and maybe Razor would like a crack at Chicago. I'd like to see how Berube handles this stretch. |

The Flyers are living a charmed life right now playing against a detroit team missing it's stars and now a stars team missing half it's defense.
A relatively healthy Flyers team should win this game. |

I know that NJ is not a world beater, but that same Detroit team missing it's stars won 3-1 last night and held them to 11 shots in NJ. I take a win vs that club any way I can get it especially in their barn. |

Why does it have to be a euphamism for anything? I dont see why it cant just be back spasms. Some people are quicker to believe that this is some serious injury and we're being lied to by the team, than that he genuinely just had back spasms. Its like with Luukko's departure. A lot of people were more willing to believe that it was a forced resignation spurred by some power conspiracy than that he genuinely just wanted to pursue other interests. Why do people think that the team is constantly lying to them about everything they can get away with lying about? |

if he had a herniated disc then there would be more sciatica type symptoms

I was wondering if goalies can ask the coach to play in certain games, thinking Emery might want to play against Chicago (or then again, given how good they are, maybe not)? |

Because the team has led us to believe injuries aren't serious then they turn out to be career threatening. Is it their own doing? Not sure but going back to pronger, he had like a cold to being done for good.
Edit; oh yea btw if you wanna believe Lukko decided on a whim in the middle of a tailspin which goes back to last season really, that he's gonna pursue other interests, then be my guest. But stepping down during the course of a season seems highly ill timed to a lot of people. |

Matinee in icy Texas...the perfect time for some hockey!
Hopefully last game was the start of a streak for Hartnell and G, and hopefully keeps racking up points. |
