Important to distinguish the two things at play here. Let's say the Kypreos report is true and that St. Louis did ask for a trade. Fact that Yzerman won't deal him for a rental doesn't necessarily mean that the situation is dealt with.

I don't want anything for him. He needs to retire with this club and then we put his number in the rafters.

It's well known a team was given permission to talk to Callahan's agent. If that was Yzerman, it could be an extension is agreed to in principle, and a MSL for Callahan deal is planned, it's just not with Callahan as a rental.

if you read the tampa bay times vinik talked to st.louis and told him how important he was to the lightning when he was passed by canada. I don't see St.Louis being traded by the lightning. Ya st.louis was upset but I think in time he will get over it.

no need to sell marty he will retire with the lightning! the team has a load of young forwards already! they need to learn from st.louis! Connolly, Killorn, Drouin, Kucherov. Palat and johnson.

If he leaves, he will leave a lot of fans here with broken hearts. If he requested a trade then so be it, but it won't be for someone like Callahan....

As for me, I don't believe he wants out of Tampa Bay. Is he still upset over 2010 and the first time in 2014? Yes. Is he going to punish the fan base that has supported him and screamed his name for the top of the lungs over and over and over again for the better part of 14 years? No. Marty is a man of integrality, passion and loyalty, so I believe these rumors are just that, rumors.

I would have said the same thing about Alfredsson before July 5 2013 last year. You just never know now. In his post-game french interview yesterday though, he looked pissed he didn't play alot during the tournament.

That has to do with Babcock, NOT Yzerman. However it is true that we don't know what goes on within the office/lockeroom.
