I just hope if they fire Gillis, they hire someone capable and not for popularity. That would be the worst case scenario. |

I think we've exhausted this conversation and the potential scenarios already. And we're still on the 1st page. |

Okay. Riddle me this: Say they fire Gillis the day after the regular season ends; what QUALIFIED replacement GM is going to be available and not involved in some sort of ongoing playoff run? |

No one, that's the point.
The Aquillinis, after being involved in coaching changes and trades now want to try their hand at drafting!
The future is bright!!! |

That's why keeping Gillis isn't that horrible. It could be a lot worse. Fans chanting fire Gillis aren't chanting for a capable replacement... Because who is out there? |

Before this last draft, I would have guessed they had a hand in drafting for a decade or so...
If I was the owner of a team, I'd like to have a say....
Is it a business or a game?
Maybe make a reality show of the behind the scenes stuff? |

WTF - he's done NOTHING for the past two years but have one mis-step after another. The sooner he's gone the less chance of another (frank)-up on his part. |

While I'd like to turf Gillis, the problem becomes who's to say that his replacement won't be WORSE. We know this franchise is slipping into irrelevancy and mediocrity with no real hope on the horizon. Unless you want to completely tank for McDavid next year, what can a new GM hope to do that Gillis can't/wont? Would the trade offers be that much better with a new GM? Would he get any better advice from scouts? Would he be able to take said advice without ego getting in the way? Would he have autonomy to do whatever is necessary without interference from ownership? These are just some of the questions that I'd be asking before letting go the GM. I think at this point, the style of play and coaching is a much greater need to be addressed than a GM at this point. I'd personally give Gillis one more year with a new coach but on an EXTREMELY short rope to be fired the second the Canucks go on a losing streak or a winless streak of more than 3-4 games and based upon the way they're playing. |

This is my biggest fear when/if Gillis gets fired. |

Firing Gillis because the fans chanted it and then hiring Linden to appease the season ticket holders would be brutal. I'd have to hope that they understand the longterm ramifications of screwing over the franchise.
Then I remember Garth Snow is still a GM and the Canucks history. I must conclude a new season low is on the horizon. |
