Great article and insights. Well done

and yes, for the record, I think Cherry deserves to be in the HHOF - in fact, it's a no brainer as far as I'm concernerd

Absolutely hate Don Cherry. To the point where i'll put the sound of top 40 music on during intermissions at the bar I work so no one gets dumbed down by his rants. But I absolutely do believe he should be a member of the HHOF. Ron should be up for consideration too.

Ron MacLean and Don Cherry will both be in the hockey hall of fame. There is no point to argue it.

Using Mike Milbury as an example of a prominent Grapes supporter doesn't exactly advance Cherry's case, in my book.

I would like to point out that everyone who has won the Foster Hewitt award is in the HHOF. There are multiple broadcasters.

Agreed - unfortunately, we are stuck with the Cherry-wannabe in the states.

YES! Well written, great perspective I 100% agree with inducting him while he's still 'young' enough to appreciate it. Pat Burns deserved it as well, so why wait? HE'S A LEGEND!

I was kinda hoping you would look at what Orr said with more esteem than Milbury

Please, let's be serious. Don Cherry was an average defenseman, a journeyman, who had a long career as a minor leaguer-without winning anything of importance.

A Builder? He coached probably one of the best team, pound for pound in the NHL, without winning the Cup, or anything of importance. His coaching style was already passe in the mid-70s! He could not even manage to coach the OHL's Ice -Dogs to a level of decency in 2000-2001.

As a Journalist? He is a second-grade analyst, that for some obscure reasons some Canadians took a shine on his bombastic personnality, his antics and his flashy suits. This guy is only a show.

The only way he would get in the HHOF is if there was a hockey bone-head section.

His redeeming qualities is related to the charity work he does; that is certainly not a reason to support his induction to the HHOF. Pat Burns deserved far more than he to get in while he was alive and these dorks at HHOF and the NHL managed to screw it up.
