Decent chance he could go 6th or 7th overall.


We'd probably have to overpay and do it with younger assets.

I think some people don't understand the magnitude in which improvements would have to be made to get this team out of the bottom 5.

The only teams I can think of that made an incredible turn around like that are Philly and Columbus but both teams had far better/more ready young NHLers than we do. Plus I think the bad year from philly was more about long term injuries.

Columbus has been wallowing at the bottom for years. They're not a good example even for this. The Flyers are.

I know but I was referring more to the exceeding of expectations. They went from drafting 2nd overall (like us) to competing for a playoff spot and wildly exceeding expectations which is what some fans think we will do. Difference is that like you said they already picked up elite talent at the top of the draft for some time.

The idea is to get one or more championships out of this. In order to win a championship, you need to have a plan. Whether that's a plan that's been used by someone else, or something completely innovative, it needs to be a plan nonetheless. To merely say "we suck, let's rebuild" is simply a continuation of the loser mentality that's haunted this franchise for decades.

Ristolienen? I'm sorry, I just couldn't help it. And I thought Bennett was the next Gilmour or Toews? Significant downgrade right there. You trade those two defensemen and your best prospect at that position is now a college kid and a stay at home #4 or 5 defensemen.

I think aside from depleting the depth on D, my biggest concern with that kind of trade is there's a real possibility that Ristolainen ends up being better than whoever we take at third overall.


I'd rather add them to the pool than switch them in for someone else if that makes sense.

That's what not what I said at all. I'm sure he does have a plan. Darcy Regier had a plan too. It was simply a bad one. It's also very possible (hopefully unlikely) that Murray has a bad plan as well.

Are you kidding? All the folks they interviewed had bad plans ? He has done well everywhere he has been on the road to the GM here. You don't even know his plan and it must be a bad one ? Does the sun ever shine where you live ?

He is not a nobody that has been grabbed off the street with no background in hockey . Let him implement his plan before you insinuate it might be a bad one.
