There are players that are good enough to mask a front office's shortcomings. Nobody really turned out to be that. The only one that may from that group is Myers. Regier had his significant deficiencies, but ultimately the players on the ice need to be great, just like a quarterback in the NFL.

We also never drafted players that were in a position to be great. Like the Bills, we were constantly drafting 9th-12th. No one believed Gerbe or Ennis would be a Toews or Crosby figure. We just liked who they were. Every July 1st we waited for that star caliber guy and he never arrived.

Murray's definitely in a good spot. However, much of what he has to work with is from the prior regime, which, like you said, means that it will be a long time before we really know how good he is. I would think a lot of people could put forth a semi-decent team in a couple of years with this kind of arsenal. That being said, I just can't bring myself to bank on "potential" anymore.
