Drafting a winger is exactly what they should do.

Perlini reminds me of Drew Stafford... Virtanan a poor-man's Corey Perry.

i love the flyers and can't wait to see what hexy does to make them better. if the D prospects pan out, with a couple moves and they could be right there in a year or 2......excited for the draft and still hoping i can get to go.
happy fathers day to everyone

bill mentioned adrian kempe in last blog.....he looks like he has some upside. any chance he'll be there or that the flyers trade up?

Kempe could go in the top-12, or fall into the 20's... this draft looks pretty impossible to predict.

Yes, there is at least a 50-50 shot Kempe is there at 17. There is no one in this year's draft whom I'd personally want to see the Flyers trade up to get. The gap right now is not enough to justify spending an extra asset to move up.

Stafford is a pretty good comparison, I think.

If Richie is still on the board at 8 I would kick the tires of a move there to grab him. Not sure what the cost of moving up 9 spots would be but I would certainly think he'd eventually fit into the first line LW role we're trying to fill much better than a Virtinan type.

Yes, stop mucking about with the alleged best player available (center )

Unless you have another deal in place( and Hexy's poker face has been good so far) you need to groom the low salary ELC people to fill the roles players as well the scoring wingers, as they move up the depth charts in the capanomics world.

I agree with Bill that playing people out of position is a negative in most cases for development

Unless, of course there's a trade up to the top 3, which allows a shot at Ekblad, Bennett, Reinhart or Draisaitl

Looking forward to the draft, not only to see how well we draft when there are a lot of potential diamonds in the rough, but also to see what Hexy does his first year at the helm.

I think Jokinen is gonna cost about $1mm more than you have him at, and I really do think Read can slide up and be as good or better than him.

I like Gilbert, probably cheaper than Stralman will be.

Pretty much the exact same roster I would make if I had time. It's so easy when Kimmo only makes 2mil isn't it?

I like Jokinen but not at more than 4 million max. I agree with you about Read, I just think the deeper they can make the forward corps, the more pressure it takes off the D, and if you can add a guy like Jokinen, they would really be strong up front.

I also figured that Gilbert can give you pretty much what Stralman does but at 1.5-2 million cheaper. The Rags playoff run almost certainly has driven the price for Stralman up.

Honestly, I can't see any reasonable move that they are going to make that would make them a serious cup contender next season. Realistically they are at least one if not two seasons away from reaching that level.

No move is worth it because prices for even just a borderline first pair defenseman are astronomical.

Gonna have to just deal with it.

I agree Stralman is going to be a big winner in free agency after his post season. I think he will get between $4 and $5 million. I wouldn't mind taking a run at Hainsey. Another good mentor for the young guys coming up, a little tread left on the tire, and probably can get him for around $3-$3.5 million/yr.

I agree that making a deeper forward group helps the defense, but at the same time, there's other options available that will be cheaper and easier fits. I wouldn't hesitate to slide Read up to the top 6, and use an internal guy to replace him on the third line. Raffl, Laughton, Bellemare, Akeson are all guys that can play a bit and probably can give the Flyers a solid third line for cheap.
