I wouldn't go higher than $4.5 million. Something like 4 years $16 million is fair.

The guy can play, always could, still can. Edmonton's situation the past number of years has really held him down.

his injury issues worry me, i wouldnt be opposed to signing him if its a decent contract, but we will have to overpay

For what he cost the sens at the deadline I thought he made more sense then rutuu and filled a need instead of a want. We needed more offense and Lou went with a third line guy who played physical in two games and one of them was against his former team. I would give him 2 years 10 million total and go from there I really don't want to many guys over thirty locked up on questionable contracts

No doubt about it Hemsky still has game... He battled injuries but was Edmontons only offensive threat for years... We gave him away at the deadline and many still miss him from Edmonton... He can be a game changing talent- if given the right environment which he never had with us... anyone who signs him that has talent for him to play with will not be disappointed... I would do it- he is a top 6 winger 5v5 and a #1 unit PP artist... mad skill

4 years at 16 mil seems fair. Would look great with Elias and Henrique.

I agree that Hemsky would of been better then Ruutu at the deadline.....as for getting him now or any other player like Vrbata, Stastny, etc, etc...the devils are going to need to open up some roster spots....their top nine now has Jagr, Elias, Henrique, Brunner, Ruutu, Zubrus, Ryder, Clowe and Zajac. You figure Lou is going to bring back probably 2 out of Gionta, Carter and Bernier plus we still have JJ so we really need to move a player or 2. I also doubt that the devils would move players like Zubrus, Ryder and/or Ruutu down to the 4th line...that would be the most expensive 4th line in hockey.

I miss Hemmer. He's the kind of guy that will bring you out of your seat with the plays he makes. Great on the half wall as well. Allot of talent, just needs the proper line mates. Jersey would be a good fit.

Trading for rutuu was one of the most pointless trade I mean did we give up anything significant no but we gave up skill for grit and inconsistant grit at that we got older and didn't move a defenseman in the deal it literally filled zero of the teams needs and not that it will matter to much with then space we should have but we also added cap in the trade t

Czech Mate! - We got Zids and Jagr back - this sounds like a perfect fit, besides we have scapegoats a plenty - he would be totally safe from that bull poop here in NJ.

Out with Ryder - in with Hemsky

This would be a good move for NJ - who can we pawn Ryder off on to?

He asked ottawa for 5.5, so you aren't getting him for 4 mil.

He's a good player, would be a good signing, but he'll get 5.5 from someone.

Just hoping he goes to a good home. He's always always loved the idea of playing with Jagr so that could be going well for you.

This is coming from a bottom of the barrel team so don't take too much offense to it. I hope Hemsky signs with a better team. Nothing against you guys, but I really want him to sign with a contender and get a cup

I'd project him, on Jersey, to be 13 goals, 32 assists, -12 (if he doesn't get hurt). Would you pay 20M/4 years for this?

He was awesome... when he was on Pronger's version of the Edmonton Oilers. The culture of losing in subsequent years will have taken its toll. Is NJ going to fix him? Why not just continue working with Brunner, who's younger, cheaper, knows NJ's system now, and just as skilled?

He's got time. He could sign for good coin and good term and end up playing with a Devils team that's a contender down the road. He could end up getting traded to a contended in a couple years.

Just wish he could have stayed with the Senators

I don't think Brunner's just as skilled as Hemsky. He's certainly not as good.

I agree Ryder should be traded, not because he's horrible like some Devil fans think, but because of his contract he's probably the only veteran devil worth the money he's making (1yr-3.5mil)...others like Zubrus (2yrs-3.1mil), Ruutu (2yrs-3.8mil), Zajac(7yrs-5.75) and Clowe(4yrs-4.85) are untradeable because of contracts and Elias has a NMC. Brunner could be another but the Devils do need some speed on their team. ....another thing is what do we do if Boucher is ready or any other young forward we have in the minors (Matteau?)....Lou needs to free some spots up here.
