Congrats to Propp on the honor. Well deserved.

I would not say anyone particular player or players surprised us in any way. With that said, I think several of the 'older young players' have clearly taken positive steps to grow their game.

This is good to hear. Hoping this includes Couturier and the Schenn boys.

Question for the Flyers fans.... whats it like having EK put you in rumors for higher priced talent... while still a decent chunk over the cap space and really no chance to be involved in any rumors?

Not at shot at you guys, just curious to your reaction to it.

I usually can't sleep for a few nights, waiting in anticipation for whomever he mentioned to be signed by the Flyers. It's cost me several relationships and animosity among my family and friends.

Most if not all of us think he is an idiot. His rumors have no substance or have ever transpired into anything.
- GOA88

Here is how I see it. He has a number of sources, where he gets information from. And he reports the "noise". I have no doubt that he's not making these rumors up. Teams talk to each other about a lot of things. The percentage of what actually happens is very low. Which is why the overwhelming majority of rumors don't come to fruition. What amazes me is that the guy has created a website and is probably making a very good living off of it, and a lot of people including you and I, are part of that. But he's called an idiot!

You don't need cap space to talk to other teams about players. You also don't necessarily need cap space to make trades either.

Got to agree with you. The rumors are worthless, but the guy is genius.

Far more often than naught, you need to have some cap space...

Anything that creates page hits is good. He found his way to do that.

Always thought Propp was underrated, and under appreciated by Flyers fans. I believe he recorded 5 straight 40 goal seasons during his run in Philadelphia. That is a hell of an accomplishment.

The "gufaw" remains my all-time favorite goal celebration.

You don't need a single cent of cap space to answer a phone call from another team. Or to talk to another team about a player. And those talks and that noise, is what rumors are generated off of.

Fair enough, do you think you could give me proof on when any of his rumors have ever came to fruition? Just one?
- GOA88

Now... is that counting the first few days of Free Agency, when he puts up a rumor an hour or so before the deal is done?

You're talking about thousands of rumors. I'm sure he's had a few hits over the years. I do not recall any specifically. And really that doesn't matter. Because they're just rumors.

Wow, someone getting pretty mad... yes, you can talk all you want, whatever. Doesn't matter how much you can talk if you can't afford to add any free agents, or make a trade without shedding a fairly large amount of cap space.

ANYTHING, because I havent seen anything from him that was worth paying attention to unless he reported a deal that has already been made.
- GOA88

Well, he has a handful in those couple days that are a few hours to a few minutes ahead of the deals that are made. Those are the only days I find merit in his rumors.

edit: And the day before/morning of the draft. He can sometimes have a rumor or two thats good then as well.

I mean whatever, you asked a question and I gave you what the general consensus was. Other than that, I just laugh about it really.

Who's mad?

I'm simply giving you the reality of what I think happens. Flyers as of right now have cap space to make moves. There is the off season exemption to play with. They have space they can use to utilize different options with LTIR. You can trade a 3.5M cap hit player for a player with a similar or lesser cap hit. But I guess a team should stop operating like a normal NHL team, and stop looking for ways to improve the team, or stop talking to other teams and offers they might be making, because of a perceived lack of cap space. So I really don't understand why it would bother a Flyers fan that they Flyers are named in rumors.

Cap space isn't an issue. It's very puzzling with all the cap space the Flyers had, Hextall was a spectator in free agency. Doesn't make sense.

Guys like Daren Dreger and Bob Mackenzie from TSN are usually fairly accurate on their " rumours".... Well much more accurate than EK. I feel those guys gain information from much more " credible sources"

The Flyers signed Ray Emery as a Free Agent, and Nick Shultz as a free agent. Hextall also stated that they were in talks with a free agent role player. And some sources reported that the Flyers made an offer to Steve Ott. But I don't know how true that was. So it is incorrect to state that Hextall was a spectator in Free Agency.
The Flyers biggest "Free agent" acquisition was made early. In trading for and re-signing Andrew MacDonald.

Dreger and MacKenzie are reporting on a different standard. They usually wait to report something until they know it's a done deal from a reliable source. They're more reporting done deals. While Eklund is just reporting talks between teams that his sources get wind of.
