Not sure why it's a problem with Rosehill as a the 13th forward. Capable of playing on the 4th line, and fill the enforcer role. I would agree if he was looking at a full time 4th line role. But really don't want a young player spending extended period of time in the press box.

Heard Claude Giroux in Ottawa on local radio the other day. He was doing some promotion on the fitness gym he has opened near his home. He was very good, very funny and completely relaxed. The issue from a few weeks ago is a non event.

Fair point, I suspect Yos was thinking the same thing just didn't elaborate to this detail. I would like to see Rinaldo as the 13th or traded personally. I am concerned about grit next year. Grit is gold IMHO. Rarely shows up on the score sheet, rarely represented well in salaries and you can never have enough. Just for clarification grit to me does not equal violence or undisciplined agression. It is the ability to work within the rules to intimidate, punish and remove other players from the play and their game through toughness, backing up trash talk and picking your spots to hit and hit hard or fight. It's like sand paper or rough textured rock.

Interesting thought on trading Rinaldo. I wonder if Hexy is thinking the same thing. I think he may have something like this in mind. While Hexy himself was prone to be undisciplined at times as a player, I don't think he likes it in today's game. He already got rid of Hartnell who took way too many stupid penalties. Maybe Rinaldo is next?

I agree with you 100 percent. I know Hartnell can take dumb penalties but he did have that " grit" as part of his game. I don't want see Simmonds having to fight more, or feel he has to bring more sandpaper to his current game. Rinaldo is hit and miss but not a top 3 line player. It will be interesting to see what kind of team they will be. I would definitely keep Rosehill on the roster. A guy like Steve Ott would have been a nice pick up to provide that trash talk and play some quality minutes

Good point about Simmonds. The last thing anyone wants is for him to break his hand or be the team enforcer and sit in the box half the time. He brings grit like Hartnell brought it, through tough play, backing up teammates and picking his spots well to hit or fight. Ott would have added in that department and I feel a small amount of remorse in not getting him. I thought I wanted Mueller on the team for a good LW to play with G. But now with Hrts traded and my mistrust in Rinaldo or Rosehill I am ready to take on Winnik. Guy lacks some thing but he certainly has grit. I hope he hasn't priced himself out of Philly- very well may have. My overall philosophy on grit is that it is best sprinkled into a lineup and not just a role player on the 4th line. I look at Boston or Anaheim as good models, or Philly commonly throughout its history. I think we currently lack that sprinkling in the line up and it is a major concern for me.

Yes, Simmonds just has to pick his battles and just keep doing what he does. B Schenn will provide some tough minutes but again I would like to have another player who can play an overall smart game with aggression! I have not seen much of Winnik but he really does not get a lot of PM's. It would be better to have a player on1st line that has Giroux and Jakes back..( just like Hartnell)

Moose helped make what is arguably the most important goal in Flyers' history (Clarke's 74 Game 2 OT goal) possible. He scored the goal in the final minute with Parent pulled that sent the game into OT. Best shuffle EVER! Wasn't that the teams first victory there since their first season?

We'll see how the roster shakes out through the remainder of the summer and camp. I really don't see any way they are true cup contenders this year. but I think they are absolutely moving in the right direction to be one soon!

Yep. Grit is needed and is important. But I'd rather have grit that avoids undisciplined penalties and can be used as more than a 4th liner. The Flyers seem to think Rinaldo could be more, but it sure seems that when he's given more responsibility, he can't avoid the penalties.

As far as Rosehill, if you must carry a goon, he's not a bad choice. He can fight and occasionally score a goal. Of course, I'd rather see a guy like Bellemare or Hall end up as the 13th forward. I just don't agree with the mindset of having a goon.

I know OB wants and think Laughton but I think he his held in the AHL on Hexys principles alone. Not saying it is right but Hexy might be a stubborn SOB.

I just think if VL is retained he should play 2nd or 3 rd line. That is the only way we get max numbers from him.

If Berube is open to juggle his pairs up front, they can do a lot of different things. As effective as Giroux and Voracek are together, and Read and Couturier, I think they can be effective with others, as well and improve the team, top to bottom, at ES.
