Best of luck to Adam Hall -- performed his role as well as I thought he could, given where he is in his career. |

Yeah makes sense to keep Rinaldo & Rosehill. Best of luck to Hall. - ob18
The more things change...
If you're going to carry an enforcer, it's better to carry one like Rosehill, who is cheap and will not be a distraction. As for Rinaldo, the benefits are dwarfed by the liabilities. He's a below average player, who is undisciplined, can't be counted on to do much more than hit and who seems unable to stay out of the box-even when he's making a legal play, he often gets called.
While that last part isn't necessarily his fault, the reputation he built is his fault. I'd rather they find a guy who can hit and actually play than continue the Rinaldo Era |

Berube likes him well enough to have at least tried him on the PK. He's here for a little while anyway. They do need to add a depth vet forward for $1 M or so. They'll probably invite a couple to camp and see how that goes. |

Yeah Rinaldo is the problem. Shut up people! You all always cry about penalties he's taken but NEVER give him credit for the penalties he draws. He's one of the few guy son the flyers willing to throw is body around because the others don't! I'm so tired of whining flyer fans , WHINING about Rinaldo, GET OVER IT |

Unless they move VL, I don't think they are adding anyone. I'm guessing the 13 forwards who make the team are:
Giroux
Voracek
Couturier
Read
Simmonds
Vinnie
B Schenn
Umberger
Raffl
Bellemare
Laughton (I think he earns a spot)
Rinaldo
Akeson
and, if they carry a 14th, Rosehill. This would likely leave Rinaldo and Akeson battling for the last spot assuming Bellemare locks a spot up. |

The problem is that during 12-13, he seemed to really turn a corner where he was drawing more penalties than he was taking. For whatever reason, his game did regress last year and he went back to taking more penalties than he was drawing.
Now if he can get back to where he was in 12-13, I have no prob with him on the 4th line. However, if the Rinaldo we get from here on in is the one from last season, I don't want that guy in the lineup. |

Last season, Rinaldo took too many penalties and didn't draw enough relative to the ones he took. The previous season, however. the ratio was a favorable one. Other than that, the main issue people take with Zac is that he is too much of a one-trick pony. He is a great hitter and good skater but doesn't handle the puck well, does not have an offensive game and is nothing special defensively. Perhaps he can evolve into a PK contributor (although the brief experiment last season didn't go very well) but right now, his usefulness is in a rather limited role. |

Rinaldo took 3.0 penalties/60 and drew 1.7 penalties/60 last year. No other Flyer was even close to that differential. Steve Downie was the next worst forward at 1.6 penalties taken and 1.3 penalties drawn.
Hes not the sole reason this team had problems, but he certainly didn't help them last year.

He takes more penalties than he draws. He's not a good player, and he's more often a liability. He's far from the only issue with this team, but he's a useless player who does more harm than good. |

Yeah, and that didn't go so well.
I didn't agree with that decision then and I've seen nothing to alter that idea. He's a limited guy. He's not good enough offensively or defensively to be more than a 4th liner, he's undisciplined and really can't be trusted on the PK for long stretches.

I think Rinaldo remains in the lineup in the same role he played last season, but he needs to diversify his game a bit to hold that spot for the long haul.
The PK experiment came at the behest of Ian Laperriere. Rinaldo genuinely wants to be a PK player -- he's said it for years -- and Laperriere is committed to teaching him the role that Lappy himself used to play.
Unfortunately, the PK experiment with Rinaldo didn't go too well. The team as a whole was in a bit of a PK slump at that time and Rinaldo didn't appear ready for the role. That doesn't mean it will never be revisited but the time wasn't right.
One thing no one can take away from Rinaldo: he wants to learn and works very hard at practice. He genuinely hangs on every word Laperriere says. As such, I wouldn't totally discount the possibility that he can better his game. It didn't happen last season but still might.
Step one is to get back to drawing more penalties than he takes (which he did in 2012-13 but got away from last season). Step two is to keep working on his defensive game. |

Yup, I can live with him as a spare forward, but I don't want to see him playing regularly. That being said, I would rather they had traded or if no one wanted him, waived Rinaldo come October and re-signed Adam Hall for that role, but oh well... |

I can only see Rinaldo in the top 12 if:
He beats out PEB and/or Akeson
or Laughton starts the season in Allentown.
edit: I'm hoping that neither scenario happens! |

I'd love to trade him to Vancouver or someplace out west, get a 4th rounder for him and move on. Too much premium placed on toughness and not enough on discipline.
It's not just Rinaldo, but he's a prime example of it. |

Hell, I'd take a 7th rounder. It's probably all you are going to get for him. I'd rather Rosehill be the spare than Rinaldo. At least he CAN fight if needed and he doesn't take as many stupid penalties.

He might listen and work hard, but he gets on the ice and he seems to not be able to control himself. During the lockout he was somewhat effective at drawing penalties and agitating, but he took a huge step back this past season.
My concern is that he's not a very skilled guy, nor is he blessed with better than average hockey sense. Hard work and willingness to learn are great, but he's always going to be a limited guy. Even if he does become more disciplined, he's still never going to be much more than a dime a dozen 4th liner. |

Did Rinaldo have any big hits in the playoff series vs NY?
I really can't remember any.
That is the best part of his game, and when he does it I think it has the other team looking over their shoulder when he is on the ice. When he isn't hitting, well, the rest of his game is pretty limited.
Good luck to Hall.
He was a good role player for them.

I'd rather get rid of both and have Hall as the 13th guy, but that's just me.
I get the idea of an enforcer, but in practice, I'm not sure Rosehill fighting another goon protects or creates space for the skill guys. |
