I am convinced the Flyers will never be a "good" shootout team.
When we score our goalie lets in every shot, when our goalie stops all but one shot than we can't buy a goal.... |

Yep, it seems that they can never score first and if they do the other team will score their next shot. Can't remember the last time they Flyers scored on their first two shots. The shoot out in Nashville last year was great when Vinny won It on a nice shot that I think was in 4 or 5th round

That's a whole lotta goalies. How did Merrick Madsen look at Harvard? Is he a realistic option to get signed? - Jsaquella
He'll be a freshman at Harvard this season. Still very raw but he's got that combo of size and athleticism that are a premium nowadays, so he's got a shot in the long term. Hopefully, he'll someday go further at the pro level as a player than the three previous Harvard goalies the Flyers drafted (Tripp Tracey, Aaron Israel and Dov Grumet-Morris). |

I dont know about the Harvard kid, but the reason there are 6 goalies under contract is that the Flyers made personnel commitments to their affiliates. The Royals signed 9 forwards and 4 defensemen and the Flyers are likely responsible to provide both goalies for the Royals the same way the Caps did, thats the way these affiliates work. You may see 2 or 3 other Phantoms/Flyers contracts there, maybe Brett Fleming and a drafted prospect or 2. It flows uphill with injuries and emergency goalies are signed for a weekend and sometimes other organizations close by loan players to get them playing time. There was a Phantoms forward and goalie with the Royals for short stretches last year, when they were shorthanded even though they were a Caps affiliate

Bill,
If I remember correctly, the Flyers used to have a "Rookie Camp" in addition to "Prospect Camp" and regular training camp. The Rookie Camp brought in players who either were prospects with a shot of making the big club or were young AHL players who were looking to earn a spot. Am I remembering correctly? If so, do they still do this? |

I think they used to have a rookie camp about a week before full training camp opened, but that was back in the days before they did the early summer prospect camp. I'm not sure if rookies still report a few days before the vets anymore. |

No, that used to be the culmination of Prospect Camp, but they decided not to do it due to injuries (to Ghost last year, I think) in the recent past. |

They had one at Skate Zone when Alzner was the big-time prospect with Washington. I started to heckle him as soon as the puck dropped. I was surprised that I was the only one. Maybe I shouldn't have been. |

I had thought he started there last year, if he's there now, they hold his right for awhile at least. Thanks, Bill |

You're thinking of the scrimmages at prospect camp. That is where Laughton ran over and injured Ghost.
The caps vs flyers rookie game happens at the end of rookie camp. The game happened last year. |

I have a gut feeling that is going to be a huge break out season for Sean Couturier. I'm predicting he breaks 20 goals and 50 points and is a finalist for the Selke trophy.
