We don't NEED Alfie in our lineup since that would likely reduce the progression of players such as Jurco...but I agree fully that Alfie should be able to have as much time as he needs. He had good #'s last year and as mentioned is a right handed shot...which for some reason Detroit is desprately lacking. If he does play, limited regular minutes, 1st line PP on the point + his leadership definately wouldn't hurt the wings...but we will be fine without him + having 3 mil cap room is incredible considering our entire team is signed.
My ideal lineup without Alfie:
Z-Pav-Nyquist (give Gus a legit shot at top lines minutes alongside 2 all stars)
Mule-Weiss-Helm (Let helm use his speed to be the workhourse on this line, Weiss will playmake and Mule will snipe)
Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco (Proven chemistry, keep them together, solid 3rd scoring line)
Miller-Abdelkader-Cleary (all players are excellent 2 way players and kill penalties, all players can also contribute offensively as well).
* Spares: Andersson, Glendening

Jurco could get 20+ goals . he had 8 in 36 games with a average of around 12 min of ice time a game. |

He also took twice as many offensive zone draws as defensive, and played mostly against the other team's scrubs.
I would like to see Jurco succeed and think he has earned a spot on the NHL roster, but I also expect that he'd struggle a bit (at least at first) if asked to play a larger, more difficult role against tougher opposition. I don't think you can simply say that getting, say, 150% more ice time means 150% more goals.

He's probably going to still play on the third line and get about the same minutes this year. Even if he struggles for stretches around 20 goals isn't an outrageous prediction. |

Considering helm is getting his chance on line 1 I'd switch him and nyquist on your lines but 3rd line is clutch and 4th I could see that being anything...
Miller(cleary)-Anderson-Abby
That would be my choice |

No doubt Jurco could get 20 goals. This kid is talented and all around a good player. I see redundancy with him in the line up over the next half decade though with our top six possibly including Tatar, Nyquist, Franzen, Jurco, Pulkinnen, Mantha, Athanthansiousiuusou, Frk, not too mention Larkin, Zetterberg, Weiss, Cleary (He'll be here for 13 more years), and any good trades we make.
Am I the only person that thinks we should take two of the following: Frk, Tatar, Jurco, throw in random D prospects, and some picks and go after a mid-to-late 20's top pairing D-man? |

At this point I would say that along with skill, Jurco brings the most physical style of any of those guys on that list. For that reason I'm not sure I would trade him.
Wings could afford to make that kind of trade but the problem is what team is going to trade a top pairing dman in his prime? Teams usually only trade those guys if they can't re-sign them because they plan on testing the market for a huge payday. |

One can always hope. Some top d-men have been league wanderers. Pronger is the best and most recent example I can think of. Some crappy team with a really good d-man who wants out in order to contend, may be willing to trade him. |

Pronger was in a different era (pre-cap mostly) when top players were traded more often or became UFAs. Now teams are locking up the best players long term and holding onto them more because they know they can't replace them most of the time with a UFA or trade. It is possible that one could become available like you said to go to a contender. There is also the problem that most of those players now have NTCs and such and can decide where they want to go which might not be Detroit given how the last few off-seasons have gone.
I guess we can hope that a player like a Weber or Karlsson will eventually ask to be traded and want to come to the Wings but I wouldn't hold my breath for it to happen though. The type of package you are talking about giving those are the type of players I would want coming back (Likely take more than that too). |

Yeah I knew it was basically a pipe dream for him to actually make the team, but I was really looking forward to seeing him play with Datsyuk or Zetterberg in the preseason. |
