Tim, Timonen's contract is not a 35+ contract. If he retired, the cap hit would be removed!

Nothing is stopping a player from retiring. And other then suffering from PCS, I'm sure Pronger will survive the hard ship of collecting those checks for millions!

As others have mentioned, the Over 35 rule doesn't apply to Timonen as he's on a one year deal.

the idea behind it was to prevent easy cap circumvention by signing older players to long term deals that were massively front loaded.
