I was wondering about this Tomas Nosek?? Is he a future red wing as I have noticed him on the scoresheet. Is he a future nhler or career ahler? Anyone? |

Nosek does not have to clear waivers - flyerdude17
This will be Nosek's first year in NA. He has shown potential to be a solid top 9 2 way centerman thus far. |

Sad that Mrazek and Jensen will start the season in the AHL when their play should have earned them a spot on the team to start the season. Instead worst players will get their spots and suck until they get injured or be given 20 to 40 games to show that they still suck. |

If I had to guess right now, career AHLer, though I kinda do think he will get some games in Detroit this year and next due to his age/professional experience/waiver status.
I'd love it if he becomes another one of those diamond-in-the-rough unexpected success stories, but honestly we're talking about an undrafted 22-year-old who has had one breakout season in a third-rate European pro league. That doesn't mean he can't or won't catch on at the NHL level (late bloomers do happen from time to time), but even if he does I think the odds are against him being an impact player for any significant stretch of time.
The coaching staff does seem to think highly of him, though. And he's just young enough that there is still some potential for him to grow. So we'll see. |

Agree on Mrazek.
Disagree on Jensen. He's looked much better than I expected him to but I do think he's got to prove himself in Grand Rapids more before he leapfrogs the other defense prospects. Ouellet, Sproul, Marchenko, and Backman are all 1-3 years younger than Jensen and were all better than him last year. For that matter Adam Almquist is about Jensen's age (a little younger actually) and was one of the AHL's best defensemen the last two years. A couple of strong preseason performances is not nearly enough to convince me that Nick Jensen is a better option right now than any of those guys. |

Jensen was as good as DeKeyser in the NCAA if not better and we all know DeKeyser didn't have to prove anything in the AHL. Kind of hard for Jensen to prove himself when he missed part of the summer, training camp and a chunk of the season with an injury. Almquist never got a chance because he's smaller than Jensen and not even close to being as fast (I still think they should have given Almquist more of a chance in the NHL). Backman is still too weak and has work to do and as much as I love Sproul, he will need more time in the AHL. Jensen looked better than all of the other prospects including Ouellet and Marchenko. I think his play should have earned him a start in the NHL especially when guys like Lashoff and Kindl have looked like crap. |
