hey sweet ..... FIRST.

Good to see the boys up and at it early in The Valley!

Couldn't watch the game last night

Leafs, Habs and Flames were on, but no Sens (I dont get the HD channel).

It's going to be a season of lowering the amount of mistakes as the season progresses. we as fans need to look at it like the coaching staff should ten game blocks at a time - although that's hard at game two.

From what I saw on the highlites - Ottawa looked good - and they got two points.

Anderson starts tomorrow.

btw Jared - if you drink every time one of Cole/Millen makes a mistake, the guy at the beer store will know you by name, but your liver will hate you

Happy Thanksgiving boys!

Props to Coach for not changing the lineup and for sticking with the lines until Ottawa needed a wake up call. Stone is the coachs secret weapon, when Ottawa is down he puts Stone with Turris.

Giving up 40 shots in 3 periods isn't going to get us very far but we seem to be in every game with a chance to in early

Ottawa needs to play it's best game against Florida - they played really bad against bad teams last year and if we want to get off to a good start we need to win and control play against Florida.

Ideal win - less then 30 shots, score on the PP, win in regulation - get MacArthur and Ryan in the Goal column.

Loved seeing Stone up front with Turris, they have chemistry, leave them together. Also Hoffman could have 5 NHL goals this season, he's hit about 3 posts and had 2 or 3 All Star game scoring chances last night - I like the Hoff, I like the speed he brings us, makes us a much faster team and I'd like to see him score one

Also Turris looks amazing - his game has gone up a notch, his release is even faster and his skating is so much more balanced - Chiasson also is just a smart hockey player

I think Anderson will start.

I also think the lack of blind drop passes so far this year by Jason Whatshisname is a VERY encouraging development! As is Karlsson's return to form. Wow he is killing it out there!!

Was there a need to re-sign Anderson before the season?

We know there would have been teams lining up to sign Ryan.

But honestly, I doubt there is a team that was planning on waiting for Anderson to be a UFA...

Nice to get the win, but as has been mentioned, work still needs to be done. Hopefully they can translate this into some work. Neither teams defense looked good. Tampas D will need to work on their defensive zone clears, and as a Sens fan I feel like I know what I'm talking about there.

Oh boy, where to begin...

First off congrats to the Sens for their first w of te season. They really did turn it up a notch in the final 20 and OT.

Lazar: played very well last night, but I fear Mac will do the same to him as he did to pageau last year. He's going to be leashed to Neil for 9 then sent back to junior. That would be a mistake, and in my mind, would cement my growing opinion that the Paulrus might not know what he's doing.

Cowen: This guy is what has caused me to question the coach's decision making ability. How someone so out of his league can be playing with the franchise's stud d-man is mystifying. I could go on ad nauseum about his play, but suffice it to say I have been saying since last season that this guy has no hockey sense. Time for a move Mr. Murray.

Borowiecki: (I never spell that name right). Did anyone notice how many guys he flattened last night? This guy just gets it. He needs to stay in the line up, and should not be the guy coming out if Weircioch comes back in. I would also point out that he had a great breakout pass that led to our first goal. Just sayin..

Neil: Always liked Neil, but I'm starting to think that the game has passed him by. I know he brings intensity and leadership, but he is an anchor for Hoffman and Lazar.

Anyways, that's all I got right now, and I'm hungry. Ttyl everyone...

yup. doesnt take rocket science to conclude that cowen is still not a good hockey player, or that we still have problems getting out of the zone. its not like we made any changes on d, afterall.
the difference in this game (from last nights) was that ek was back to form, a couple other guys stepped up and the lehner was a wall. i don't see defensive problems going away unless we make a change.

as far as larsson goes, i dont follow him that much. i know he's getting the run around from nj, but when he does play how is he?

Karlsson and Lehner were the only players that impressed last night. Lehner for a full 65 min + shootout and Karlsson for the 3rd and OT. Karlsson needs to bring it all the time. The team seemed to follow suit once he took it up a notch. That's what you need in a leader. Alfie did that on a regular basis. Karlsson needs to as well.

I expect another boring/unenthusiastic effort (not necessarily a loss) on Monday against Florida. Once this road trip is out of the way, things should start to come together a bit more.

If Lehner doesn't start tomorrow, it only proves that the coach doesn't have confidence in him. Put him out there until he loses.

I think it's apparent that Marc Methot needs to be resigned..

I can't see us rolling with 8 NHL D men all season so one of Gryba, Cowen or Weircoitch must go.

Except that Anderson played a perfectly good game against Nashville, and Lehner still played. It's the third game of the season - there's no "hot hand" to play yet.

As for the idea above that Lazar's going to get the Pageau treatment, I don't quite agree.

Yes, he's anchored to Neil, but since he has Hoffman as well, it's not nearly as bad of a line as Pageau was on. Secondly, he's actually been seeing quite a bit of ice time, partly because of the PK - he's playing significantly more than Neil is.

Which raises a question, actually - Lazar's TOI minus his special teams TOI doesn't equal Neil's TOI... so has he been double shifted a bit and I just haven't noticed? He played three and a half minutes more than Neil at even strength last game. Hoffman played almost as much too.

Overall, I like the pace that the team is able to play at with Turris, Legwand, Zibanejad, and Lazar down the middle... not that everyone on the team is up to the challenge of playing that kind of game. As has been described extensively, Cowen, and Neil are sticking out like sore thumbs right now... Methot and Condra could probably fix a lot of that, but an upgrade on defence is beyond question.

I've been pleasantly surprised that having all of the young players in the lineup has really boosted the team's energy level, without any apparent negative consequence. Lazar should almost certainly be kept up with the team, and I thought Hoffman and Borowiecki might be fringe NHL-ers, but each seem to be playing a valuable role. The bite Borowiecki brings to the 3rd pairing has been very noticeable, and Hoffman looks dangerous on the PP with Karlsson.

Both Anderson and Lehner seem to be ready to go, and I think the fact that players like Ryan, Michalek, Zibanejad, and Legwand have yet to really kick into gear offensively, means there's a lot of reason for optimism. The real question mark - as it has been for a couple of years now - is why this team continues to stubbornly refuse to make the necessary moves to shore up the blue line.
