Awesome Game.
I agree the refs have to be consistent. Malkin delivered a clean hit, was ganged up by four rangers and had to sit 2 minutes on the penalty box. Doesnt make any sense.
Lundqvist was lights out. Stopping both letang AND crosby breakaways on the OT is no easy thing. |

That Malkin hit though...wow.
I kind of have to laugh at the Ranger fans who were commenting about "how dare the Penguins fan cheer while Girardi is hurt" when the fans were chanting "Geno". And two posts later say something like "I hope someone ends Crosby's career." |

The pp is getting away from things.. Horny and kuni both aren't in front of the net. Horny is ending up on left wall or point. And they are not getting pucks to the net as much. They need to have geno on point (can't believe I said that) and let him shoot along with letang...
Gunner any stats on first few games when pp was awesome compared to last few games.. ie shots or man in front of net??

They had an unsustainable shooting percentage to start the year on the power play. It was always going to come down. That isn't to say they have been as sharp with the man advantage but the previous rate of scoring was going to obliterate the all time single season record. |

That board is a joke... I've never seen so many people put everything into such hypothenic arguments. "If our guys hit Crosby like that..." "If Krieder did that..."
Besides just reactively insulting Crosby, it's like their go to for deflecting any type of blame.

It's funny how much special teams impact the games. On the scoresheet Pens won a close one in Toronto 2-1. A couple early PP goals and it's a 4-1 game and looks very lopsided. Same with last night... A couple PP goals and it's a solid 4-2 win.
The Pens games against LA and Nashville are probably viewed as their most complete hockey games, but in reality, they were 1 goal games padded each with two power play goals. |

Quick question, when Letang came out of the box in overtime, shouldnt he have had to remain until a whistle and then skate to the bench? It was 3-3 to start, Scuderi gets a penalty making it a 4-3 for Rangers. Letang and ( insert Ranger player who was sent off at the same time here) penalties ended, Letang jumps on but the ranger player couldnt of jumped on because that would of made it a 5-4 in overtime. Am I wrong or should that never of counted anyways.... |

You're absolutely correct. I cannot remember I'd it was on the broadcast, here on the board last night, or both, but someone mentioned the same thing. If anything I think it was a slip up between both the players and whoever was attending the boxes. |

Good Blog Ryan
"Tanner Glass doesn't do too many things right on the ice, add celebrating in front of the opposition's bench when his team doesn't actually win to the list"
Tanner Glass is such a douchebag, I was really wanting to see Downie clean his clock in either of these past 2 games |

Anyone see In The Room yet? Nothing too interesting in this episode. Just a few tidbits. Interesting hearing Johnston coaching in action and how all he does is yell "move!" "speed!". And how awkward he looks on skates haha.
Malkin nicknames Neal "Lazy".
The refs were talking about Downie and how hes going to get a penalty if he keeps talking to the refs. No wonder he gets so many penalties...annoy the opposition, not the refs Downie! |

If Downie cant cut down on the penalties, he should probably be waived. He made 3 plays last night before his first penalty that were borderline penalties before he was finally called. Wasnt like it was a penalty for being downie. He completely negates any effectiveness by his stupidity.

No doubt he has more hockey skills than Carcillo, but I wonder which of the two would be more "effective" in their roles... |

The rangers player comes out of the box too and its 5v4 until the next stoppage. They had it right |

They are being too cute again. They actually had been towards the end of the run they had been on but it has been working still. They need to go back to basics and shoot and use Hornqvist and Kunitz to retrieve. Thats the benefit of having two of those players on the ice at the same time |

Lundqvist was incredible. That can make players overthink and may have affected the pp. You overthink the pass/shot. And we only had two.
Napkins hit was clean and powerful. Say what you want about Malkin, and you may not like his style(I do) but he finds a way to lead the team. He is an emotional leader. And he hates to lose just as much as Crosby. No to Skuds on 3-3. Ever.

Nick Spaling is really a square peg in a round hole here.... Did not impress in Top 6 duty and doesn't have a future there IMO
Future of the 3rd line needs to be Comeau/Sutter and either Bennett/Dupuis.
2.2 Million for this year and next for a 4th liner is extremely poor value for Spalings skill set which to date seems to be nothing special |

I'm pretty upset that I missed the game. I ended up working 14 hours last night. Damn. Good news is that I came home to see they won. Crazy finish. |

For fun. The mike Richards thing. Rough contract. If this happened ( it won't) he would replace Sutter. So Sutter and scuds (bad contract back to em)... Does that get it done? A pick or mid prospect back to em? |

He's a penalty machine. Even worse, most of them are entirely dumb and reactionary. That's why I wasn't very happy about bringing him to this team.....a team that has been known to lose it's collective mind.
Beyond him, this team is still taking too many penalties. |

Spaling - Dumoulin - Scuderi are my 3 top trade bait. Plus anything from a second round pick and later.
I'd love to trade Dumo and Spaling/Scuderi for Jurco. Or something similar. |

I'd go as far as to say Sutter is better than Richards right now, so no. |

Crappy thing is Spaling has shown NOTHING..... I can see why they have him on Malkins wing trying to showcase some potential, but I don't see it happening
Its almost like when Spaling came up in the trade, Old Man Ruth got confused and thought Poile was talking about someone else.... Only explanation IMO....
