one can marginally cheer for another team in the playoffs. as an oiler fan if uve wanted to be involved whatsoever for the last 2 months of the season during the last 8 years, u kinda had to get invested in another team.
for me, mostly the sharks and/or the bruins. an underdog here or there.
this can all be accepted as long as it didn't turn into anything real and u were able to abandon them quickly and without regret. and the same depth of love never approached what it is for the oilers.
as far as the cheering for losing; I can never ever actually cheer against them mid game. the final meaningless game agaianst Vancouver last season where they lost the draft spot with a win was great. I wanted them to pour it on.
but after the game, when they do inevitably lose, there was some solace in the big picture. although I haven't truly felt that way since nuge's year, with connor mcjesus on the horizon, im getting that way again....pathetic |

Lowe, MacT and the rest of the old boys club need to be replaced by a fresh regime. One who has no ties to the players or organization, who can perhaps give a fair view of situation and needs.

I think firing lowe would be fairly futile as hes nothing more than a figurehead. but if people really feel strongly enough about it from his days when he was making the decisions, go ahead and do it. (just as a caveat, I would like to say that he did some pretty impressive stuff before 07 when he was basically the gm of a farm team for the big markets---but nonetheless, failure for years now whether the decision maker or not)
as far as mact, im not on the fire him bus.
not only do I not think hes had the job for long enough to warrant so much blame. I actually do think hes helped this team.
he cant sign superstars. he cant even trade for ones with ntc's. hes got to overpay for secondary players, and give them extra term to come here.
last year was his first full year taking over this garbage fire. and I also think hes desperately trying to make a move right now, but is getting lowballed brutally by gms trying to take advantage of a desperate man. so hes not pulling the trigger.
I could go on and on, but u get my drift.
also, congrats on the beatdown ur eagles laid on my cowboys.
seems my teams cant beat urs in any sport..... |

Somewhere along the line I must have followed Puckrant on Facebook; as I was checking out things this morning on there, mostly to see how friends and family in the prairies were coping with the recent weather, I came across a blog by Cloutier where he placed the blame on Katz for being too much of a fan-boy of the old Oilers and not enough of the boss that made him a billionaire.
For the past nine years the Oilers have made some terrible decisions on how to properly draft and build a team, yes hindsight is 20/20 but I don't see it getting any better any time soon without someone else driving the bus.
Trust me, as a guy who's almost 50 and a Canucks fan, we've been through this before. |

Some of being a good GM is realizing glaring weaknesses and trying to address them before you are forced too.
As far as the eagles/cowboys, I would imagine the cowboys are gonna at least put a fight up in 2 weeks. Too much pride there to lose like that against a rival.
The biggest amusement I get from the eagles this season is hands down McCoy. Guy is probably gonna rush for around 1400yards and is currently 2nd in rushing. Yet all we here about is how he isn't good anymore |

I tend to agree. MacT hasn't done a whole bunch for this team as a coach or GM aside from one cup finals run which was almost a decade ago.

if theres any truth to the rumour of him forcing tambs to draft yakupov over murray, that's pretty uncool.
they've really struggled on any pick beyond the first. but some of those are still developing and could turn into something. pitlick, gernat etc.
as far as the first, yaks is the only error, but even that's up for debate at this point.
I mentioned it previously that I don't think firing lowe would do much as hes just a figurehead, but it is odd that he still has a job after all the failure.
maybe what katz cares about is money, and he is making a profit every year regardless of the losing.
of course theyd make more if they could get in the playoffs, but just saying.... |

Joensuu on waivers seems odd because unless Hendricks is back in that leaves us with 11 forwards and even if he is back we are not gonna carry an extra forward? Perhaps a trade is in the works? |

I think hes hoped that the additions would be enough to at least be adequate and provide some wins. thought wed be respectable anyway.
I really think he knows that until he gets that stud defender (waiting and hoping on nurse/klefbom or through a deal) this team isn't gonna be great.
but he may have underestimated the damage done to these kids. they just don't know how to win and he expected them to be able to carry us with abit more help.
one can see what those first few years of losing and zero insulation did to them.
so fragile. its almost like they wait for the other shoe to drop.
the games against the nucks have been more telling than anything imo.
the oil were in every game, but couldnt get it done. and I knew they wouldn't. the nucks vets know how to win and know they have the experience to close it out.
Im not gonna say mact in infallible, cause he certainly isn't. (the scrivens/fasth moves looked good to me at the time--but he needed to gamble more i suppose)
im just trying to really look at the big picture through all the panic and desperation right now. and in all honesty I can say that imo, I think hes the right gm for what is a motherfuker of a job...
we'll see
the cowboys haven't been the same team since they lost to the skins.
their bubble was burst abit there. came back down to earth.
still a good football team imo and hopefully they show up next time |

IMO, and what do I know, he should clean house starting with Kevin Lowe, then MacT and finally Dallas Eakins. There's some good pieces there, keep some of them and use some others to build a team that's not based on wingers.
David Musil is a prime example of organizations failures, drafted 31st overall in 2011 when he wasn't ranked that high but they drafted him because his dad (speculation) worked for the Oilers. Boone Jenner was still on the board, he was ranked in the top 30 but there were concerns with his skating. A big body center with extreme work ethic and leadership is what is scouting report said, in part.
Easy to look back I know, but how good would he look as your number two center right now which would allow Draisaitl to continue to develop instead of putting him in the NHL as an 18 year old. |

we'll see - hugefemale dog77 what about Perron and 3rd for Richards and King. Richards has a bit of nasty temperament and seems to be the kinda guy edm could use. I think the partying thing is behind him because god know Daryl wouldn't put up with it. I know his contract is great but what really does edm have to lose.

fair enough.
certainly not unreasonable.
u heard my opinion, but its just that....
as far as draft misses. sh1t, we could go on and on and on and on.
I think we traded up to take marc pouliot when we coulda stood pat and got Zach parise, corey perry, ryan getzlaf, ryan kesler etc etc
that's pretty much the oilers in a nutshell
