I do agree with you though. I think any deal for ROR that involves the Leafs would have to send Phaneuf the other way, and I can't see it happening. |

With Darcy out West, I wonder if he'd be interested in any of his old pieces for his rebuild?
Certainly he must still covet some of the players he drafted?
Trade: Myers, Grigorenko, + two 2015 first rd draft picks (via STL/NYI) to AZ, for Max Domi !!!

Buffalo does not need the headache known as ROR . He will be a free agent in just over a season . The greed at the bargaining table and the not caring about the effect on his team is not something we need right now . He greatly overvalues himself to his team . He is talented no doubt , just too much of a headache to deal with. |

Talk about an overpayment . You do realize it was Reinhart that made Domi look so good at the world juniors. He is not even the best player on his junior team this year . That honor goes to Mr Marner. |

I completely agree that the Leafs can't give Colorado the type of player they'd want for ROR. At the same time, if Toronto actually had that type of player, they really shouldn't move them to bring in ROR. Eventually the Leafs need to learn that you can't just go chasing after a few big names. If the Leafs were to get ROR and re-signed him, they won't have any cap space for even serviceable NHL calibre players in the bottom half of their lineup.
They're already running into that problem with the number of massive contracts they have on the books, you can't add ROR without dropping a ton of salary. Even just to get their roster filled for next season they'll need to drop salary. Next season they have 13 players locked up and about $18M in cap space projected. So they need to sign 10 guys with an average hit of $1.8M. And that includes Kadri and Bernier. Let's just assume they each get somewhere around $4M. That leaves about $10M for 8 players. If they picked up ROR, that would drop to $4M to sign 7 players. Even if you assume someone like Nylander is ready to take a spot, his contract's still about a mil, so then you'd be at $3M to get 6 players. If they were all making the league minimum the team would still be above the cap. So they would need to move out a bunch of salary just to get ROR into the lineup next season, ignoring his new contract. And if they were to make space for him, how good is that team actually going to be? They can only offload so many bad contracts. If they move Phaneuf, they would still need to replace him with a top 4 D and if they're doing so with a UFA, probably paying at least $5M. And likely retaining some of Phaneuf's salary so there may not even be any net savings.
But let's say they find a way to make space for ROR and can get a team on the ice. You're still probably filling like 6 spots with pretty bad players because they can't afford anything better than that. Even with a few good top end guys, if you don't have depth the team is going to suck. And so many of Toronto's contracts are long-term, that isn't an issues that would be going away anytime soon. So how willing would ROR be to sign a new contract with the Leafs after next season if there wouldn't really be much of a prospect for being competitive in the near future? For the team to be able to get ROR and keep him, they need to first get a ton done in terms of relieving some salaries so they can get ice a competitive team next year. Much better chance of getting him as a UFA if they can start to build in the right direction between now and then instead of making a move to get him now when the team really can't deal with another player with a really high cap hit. |

Ya ok there bud. Myers has been terrible for the past two years. What hockey have you been watching. You wanna talk about defensive miscues you dont need to look any further. He is not the great offensive dman you speak of either. The last 3 seasons in 139 games he has scored a whopping 38 pts. Way to write a complete homer article
Beside that though you can have ROR. The guy is overpaid and is nowhere close to a number one centre. For that money you can have him. |

A quarterback powerplay guy with 8pts. Ya he is back alright. - legendguy
With terrible forwards . You need to watch the games not just look at stat sheets. Shuts down opposition #1 lines consistently . Is concentrating on his defensive game right now . Please don't be clueless.

Your blogger Garth is saying he is a game changer on offense. Maybe on the defensive side but on offense. Cmon...Gardiner, Franson and Reilly put up more pts in their sleep. The leafs are also a mess. Like I said I dont want ROR either but lets not be a homer and call a spade a spade. |

I think from a Leafs fan point of view we gotta stop looking at who we can get for what, and more importantly the value of cap space, Kadri and Franson resigning might be in our best intrest rather then running to get a player via trade
Phaneuf and Kessel are not taking us to the cup and after watching them for years its clear they wanna collect a pay cheque instead of play proper Defense and help the team get further, so we gonna let Kadri/Franson/Bernier/Gardiner be traded instead? I am not sure if I can handle 5 more years of this core Leaf group
Picks/Prospects whatever we can do to eliminate those two off the Leafs and I am in, Cap Space can be better spent when we are ready, right now we are a overpaid joke of the league
and Cap space right now is more value the RoR |

I font think anyone should trade for O'Reilly...
Seems to me like he will want to see how much he can get as a UFA |

Sabres don't want or need ROR. ROR has been overrated for a long time. He's a an average 2nd line center. Guy is on pace for 40 some points. Only reason he had the top notch season last year was because of Statsny. If Mackinnon is coming back that's great. Anyone else we do not want. The one player Murray is interested in is Maantha. No thanks to an average second line center. |
