I sort of see your point, but it's kind of nice to see him get some positive press as he is regularly trashed by hockey "personalities" on NBCSN, etc.

Yeah, but you missed a big point. I liked the fact that he didn't publicize in advance what he was going to do. He was impressed with that little girl he met and wanted to do something nice for her. Too many times, celebrities "donate" to causes so that they can get more publicity for themselves, and Ovi could have easily leaked what he wanted to do. The fact that he didn't is what deserves more than a nod.

I was just thinking the same thing. Don't bust on a team that has 2 cups and has made the playoffs 18 out of the last 20 years. Moving on.....

I found the gushing to be a bit much too.
It's a nice story, but instead of praising Ovi we should really be focusing on the people he was trying to help out. They could use the attention and support more.

At least it is a reminder that we should all try to be charitable and that Hockey Players are typically pretty good guys, but this one act got way more press than it deserved. Many other players invest lots of money and more importantly, their time, in charities every day.

i think he didn't leak what his intentions were because he was trying to be funny/entertaining during the lead up.
