I'm not disputing that it's unrealistic. Then again, who saw the NJD making the finals a few seasons ago ? - golfingsince
True enough - teams get on a role from time to time. Although they did have Kovalchuk and Parise leading the way....us....not so much. |

what is benning thinking about the 2nd, 3rd and 4th line next year? i know, i'm jumping ahead a bit but bear with me.
the sedins still seem to be the #1 line, if only by default.
what do you do with vey and bonino? they don't seem suited for bottom 6 so how do they fit in long term? i'm not saying that the team needs to make a decision right away but what is the vision long term?
is horvat going to be given the 2nd line? the 3rd line? who slots into the 4th?
i would like them to retain dorsett, mathias and richardson. but if they keep all 3, are their slots for a rookie(s)?
it all comes down to the 2nd line. which way would you go?
my worst fear is that next year becomes the tank year (and not on purpose). that would be tragic if it was one year too late. - RealityChecker
It's never too late, there's always good picks to be had. I kinda do hope they take a step back next season and draft some good prospects.

I avoided the rush and thought this year was the idea year to take a step back.
Pressure from ownership may have forced JB ?
I was quite prepared to take on three years of being bad |

It would probably be best if the Sedins just retired early. No way are they going waive to be traded to a cellar dweller or is a contender going to have the cap space to bring them on board for one last run at the cup. - PetrolSexual
The twins will retire as Canucks whether people like it or not, they've given everything they had to the team and the community, they were paid well while doing it, but, I think they've earned the right to decide their own future.
The return at this point would be shiddy anyways so what's the point really? Also, it's my opinion they won't play out their full contract, especially if the team nosedives next year. |

this draft should be deep so hopefully it turns into a 2003 draft situation.
if anyone doesn't know how crazy that one was:

With new management and coach I just didn't see it, they want to prove the owners made the right hires and the vets wanted to have a bounce back year after last season, it just wasn't in the cards for this year. |

We could use a Weber in the 2nd round. What a draft for Nashville.
I'll mention again that Bonino might be a guy that gets moved. |

i don't see the sedins quitting on the team before the contracts expire.
if the team has the young talent we expect/hope, the team needs the sedins to help guide the young ones.
there are no better players than the sedins to guide young players with high expectations on the canucks. they are the best conditioned and never (hardly) complain. as the canucks are still the "sedins," it takes the spotlight off the younger players. imagine if the oilers had two steady vets, who were former superstars. think that might have helped that team?
their value to the team extends off the ice as much on.

That draft is the reason Anaheim and Boston, in part, didn't have to finish btm five to win. Getzlaf - Perry - Bergeron. |

i don't know if it will ever be in the cards.
i think ownership likes their profits. shocking news, i know.
this city is not a hockey city. it is a winning city (much like most others).
the canucks have been as good (or better) than most people expected but the drop off in fan excitement and sales is pretty significant.
after seeing their bottom line this year (especially with the low canadian dollar), how big an appetite do you see the aquillini's having for losing next year? |

I mean he probably has the most value of any of our tradeable roster players outside of Tanev. I'd part with Tanev too if the return was right. |

I don't view it as them quitting on the team but rather them having nothing left to accomplish if the team decides to step back for a few years. If they stay that's fine I just have a hard time seeing them competing in the NHL at age 36. |

Amazing draft, it's always funny when people try to compare future draft classes to it. The odds of a draft being that strong aren't very high so there's virtually no chance you'd get two lumped together within 10-15 years. |

The Sedins as leaders cuts both ways. Their approach to the game- commitment to training is always mentioned. But sometimes I think the team, to it's detriment, tries to copy their style of play- too much cycle and not enough urgency.
Maybe I am wrong and it is just the team getting old over all and not competing how they used to. |

I know . It was the perfect year to tank though. New Mgmt, new goalie, continuation of last year's decline , new system and coach, all the excuses were in a row |
