Bob Duff: Wings give AHL scoring leader Pulkkinen another chance Out front of the AHL scoring race with 30 goals and 57 points, left-winger Teemu Pulkkinen was recalled to Detroit on Tuesday.

At this point he's an NHL player, the guy is destroying the AHL. Wonder if he actually stays up or if it's potentially a showcase. Or the Wings are considering moving another winger for a dman and want to see if he can fill the spot.

The worst thing I saw from his previous brief stint is that he winds up like a crane 1 minute before hes going to get the puck. He needs to be a little sneakier.

Why is this a bad thing? We have a good team. The defense overhaul everyone wants just isn't possible.

7-9-4 against other east teams in the playoffs right now. We are big time pretenders. First round matchup against Tampa or Montreal at this point looks like a short playoffs for us.

Its not the actual playoffs yet, so those stats dont exactly mean what you portray them to be, No i dont think we are a shoe in to win the cup... but pretenders? far from

What do you guys want Holland to do? Everyone keeps talking about getting this #1 D man... where is he? they dont fall off trees and im sort of tired of the talk that its absurd holland doesnt just make it happen, like its so simple.

OEL isnt coming here, even if he was "available" which i dont believe him to be... my guess would be either Tatar or Nyquist + Larkin + Mrazek + 1st. (Arizona GM would have to be an idiot to take anything less) Any other sure fire #1 D man is going to cost a similar price, which is stupid and not worth sacrificing that much of our future for.

I want Holland to take Illitch's check book and go down to the god damn top pair defenseman store.

The wings need a top 2 defenseman and have a small window of opportunity to get a cup. Yes they have a good amount of prospects and yes patience has worked in the past, but next year your top 2 scorers are 37 and 35, you have 9 million in the bank to spend right now at the deadline this year why not spend it and see what happens...Ilitches aren't getting any younger. We have plenty of 3-6's and have no need for petry. Need a phaneuf/yandle/high end mike green. Vermette would look great on the 3rd line.

OK but we're talking buying one in July. Not trading for one now. There's a huge difference there.

I think his contract is pretty heavy and that limits some of his value. What doesn't limit his value is his play, in Detroit he is a 1-2 given the game situation with kronwall. It starts with a first and also Brendan smith and I think that should cover it really. Maybe a prospect too but none of the high eshelon guys. I would put Ericsson in any trade, but Detroit will never trade him. I don't get the same gist with smith. Phaneuf, kronwall, dekeyser, quicey, ouellette,Ericsson, marchenko is a tough d core that's locked up for awhile.would that do it?

In September and October everyone was predicting the Wings playoff streak would come to an end this yr-- with those predictions, I saw some wanting to blow it up and rebuild.

How does a team go from those predictions and expectations to being "big time pretenders"?

The 1st round series of 2v3 in this division is going to be a toss up no matter who falls where. There is no cake walk.

Let's face it-The Wings were due to lose after the winning streak they were on. Sadly the timing has been when they played Tampa, Habs etc. I'm not making excuses here, I'm just being realistic. Every team goes through such things.

Regular season game outcomes mean squat once the postseason starts. It just gets you into the dance. Once in, anything can and usually does happen (injuries, bounces for/against, call for/against, hot goalie, etc). Back in the late 90's whomever won the regular season series between the AVs n Wings, lost when it came to the playoffs.

A first and Smith? Toronto can keep that contract then.

I don't want him if a first is involved period. Kindl second or not at all.

Only way we're getting a true number 1 Dman is through the draft, otherwise no other team is gonna trade theirs unless we are stripped clean of picks and prospects. Proven commodities like that never come cheap and one side always gets fleeced.

thats what im trying to say. We all want to upgrade our D, no doubt thats true, but simply saying we need a #1 guy to step in is basically saying we need Tavares.... but without giving up anything good, its simply impossible.
