On the open market he would have gotten more $$$ and 6yrs at least, so maybe the last 2yrs of deal would be bad but also could be bought out???

Since the deal takes him past 35 I don't think he can be bought out, could be mistaken...

True dat. I guess by the time he starts showing his age, the Isles could have other defensemen ready to take on top 4 minutes and Boychuk could roll down to the bottom pairing. Still, a lot to pay for a #5... but, by that time, who knows - maybe that will be the going rate...
