Here in Bern, Switzerland is the rumor that Bern is interested in Briere. Do you think its possible he will play here next season? He played for us in the lockout 2004 and said then he would love it to be back sometime.

Briere is a much better player than Roy or the Avs ever game him a chance to continue to be. He always had a great attitude and no matter how few minutes he was given, it seemed like he played hard every shift.

Roy gave Briere the "short shaft" all year. He was never given an opportunity to show how good he could still be with top-line minutes yet he still had several game winning goals and was a consummate gentleman right up until the very last interview with Peter McNabb on Altitude tonight.

The Avs have always been a classy organization but this Briere deal is going to stick in my craw for a while.

As bad as Cliche was this year and as ineffective as Mitchell has been since his injuries, Roy was just being a wanker keeping Briere on the bench all season. I hate seeing ANY veteran done this way but signing Briere and then never playing him almost reeks of adolescent paybacks on somebody's part.

I just don't see it. Briere was old and slow. He can still pot an opportune goal here and there but I didn't see him making many plays that warranted a move to the top lines.

sure Briere might have been more effective on paper than McLeod, Mitchell playing with Dutch Iggy when all the injuries happened, but Briere himself has been injured for the most part of March and was to be shut down for the rest of the season. He just can't handle those sort of big minutes being int he Top 6.

Ultimately he just didn't work out, I loved him as a player in his prime, but he wasn't a a regular NHL player when he was traded to us.

What are our tempered expectations now that we've landed on the 10th pick? Rantanen?

Yeah, i think we have a shot at Rantanen, Werenski, or Zacha. 1 of the 3 should be there at 10 depending at home the draft falls. If all 3 are already gone then someone is dropping and I think we would be in an ideal position "to land a first round steal"

I think Werenski. I know we are still hurting for RW prospects, but a legit top pairing D prospect is really important.

Bigras, Siemens, and Geertsen are really promising but I see safe 2nd pairing guys out of them with Bigras having the most potential to be a number 2 guy on a top pairing.

Werenski at 17 is 6'2 215lbs. Thats a big body already, plus is he a solid skating pucking move Dman. To me that just seems like the right kind of fit

Werenski

Couldn't agree more. He is ready for a NHL style game coming out of college, if he decides to leave.

Even if hes not, knowing he is 1-2 years out isnt a bad thing either. Lets Bigras, Siemens develop themselves as roster players, gives a stud like Werenski a good situation of coming into a stronger D Core instead of having to deal with a mish mash of Dmen we arleady have on the roster currently
