Thanks Tim. Wilson has seem to have run his course with the team. Like a coach, most GM's should have a limited life span. As you had mentioned, some of the additions seemed to have raised more questions that answers.
Being a Flyers fan, could you tell me more about McLellan? If he juggled lines, then either the players were taking nights off, or he just didn't have patience. For us, I think it was a mix of both for this season.
In addition, the Captain situation concerned me. To strip the "C", and how it was handled was not good in my opinion. Any thoughts about that? Was McLellan in the middle of that decision?
Thanks again. |

Great blog. Stay away from Blashill, he is our contingency plan for losing Babcock. Probably won't even give teams permission to talk to him unless Babcock resigns. |

The captaincy thing was Doug Wilson driven. As for the lines it was mostly impatience. This was a different year for McLellan, he didn't look anything close to the coach he was prior and I'd say the fear for his job made him screw up decisions time after time. The lines would change but not for long, not allowing the new combinations to gain any chemistry at all before they were shifted again. I think with a new contract in a fresh place he'll settle down again. As much as I think he was a moron for most of the year in San Jose, he's still a good coach - just not for the Sharks anymore. |

I can see where someone breathing down your neck can make you nervous. I am wondering if McLellan has enough experience to settle down in those future situations? Look at how the Flyers have been coach killers, and goalie dumpers in the past. We need a strong coach, but a fair coach. If you start playing favorites, or start losing patience, then you can lose the team's confidence. Finding the right balance to motivate your players, and not becoming too friendly with them is an important key. It was said Lavy was a player's coach, but he let the player's conditioning become a question mark. In addition, you don't want to drive players into the ground where you alienate them; see VL, and Chief.
Anyway, good luck in your coaching hunt. I don't see many stand outs out there, and we have a tendency to stick with our former players. Next up, Cote...lol. |

I think there is a growing number of Wings fans that would actually like to see what Blashill could do with the team. Especially with a lot of players he has developed in GR starting to take important roles on the big club. I'm sure the Wings will do whatever they can to bring Babcock back, but I really don't think losing him would be the worst thing. |

Dave Nonis. Just kidding.
I'm not up on all the front office guys around the league but I'd talk to Rob Blake, Futa. I'd talk to Sean Burke for a role in some capacity, not GM, maybe assistant GM which is still an upgrade over assistant-to-the. Pretty much have interest in any forward thinking front office guy that doesn't want to simply build a stale roster of hard working third liners. San Jose needs a guy with a great eye for high-end talent and isn't afraid to make trades to better the team by doing a huge amount of research on other teams players. |

Right, I like your coaching candidates Tim Blashill & Hitchcock i would be happy with either of those choices. |

Oh? You want to talk to Blake?!? Permission granted ,buddy.
Futa is a good choice, IMO. But I don't think we're inclined to let him bail. It's tough because most of the good GM's have jobs already. But Wilson needs to go. You can't tick-off the talent and he broke that rule in spades. Good luck, nonetheless. |

Yeah Rob Blake is a highly touted assistant, he'd fit right in back inthe land of teal we know him & Dougie have a good relationship, that could totally work out. |

Funny how Flyers fans have wood for this guy. Hes a terrible game manager. I feel sorry for whoever has to deal with his atrocities. #TeamJuggles |

Todd's gone, that was expected all season. He crapped the bed last postseason, and was completely out of his element. It'll be interesting to see who we get as our next coach. Hopefully we won't have to watch every other coach thoroughly out coach them every postseason too! Particularly against Murray.
As far as Wilson goes I've said my piece multiple times. You can't change a team overnight in hockey. This isn't baseball and we're not the Boston Red Sox where we reinvent ourselves every season. The NMCs for Marleau and Thornton are his timetable to get our youth and young talent drafted/signed, developed, and up on the NHL team.
He has already done a great job clearing out contracts, and players that were holding roster spots for our youth: Shep, Kennedy, and Burish. Scott is a real headscratcher, but come on guys it's a 1 year contract. He's gone now. Next pieces to go are Brown and Torres, and they're gone after this season. Just in time for the Labancs, Chartiers, Sadowys, etc to join our team.
Tim, I haven't been able to keep up with this lately. Did we offer an EL contract to Paquin-Boudreau yet? Any word on what we're doing with Jevpalovs? |
