-Trade Grigorenko, Larrsson, & the NYI 1st rd pick to Col, for Ryan O'Riley.
-Sign UFA winger (3 x Cup Champ) Justin Williams to a 3 yr / $5 mill per deal.
And then maybe Mike Babcock considers joining the Sabres.
Still not enough talent here IMO, if "winning" is Babcock's prime objective.
Obviously Edm hit the jackpot by adding McDavid to their stockpile of firepower. But rosters like StL & SJ are clearly playoff ready as well. And even a team like Pitt (with HOF'ers Crosby & Malkin in thier prime) would be a great roster for a guy like Babcock to retool for the next 5 yrs.

I wonder if Babcock will take into consideration the way Ted Nolan was treated by Tim Murray. |

More correctly how Ted Nolan couldn't work with John Muckler or Tim Murray. Doubt it has an bearing. |

I doubt Babcock will base his decision on his chances of winning in Year 1.
The Sabres have as deep a prospect pool as any team in the league. Having Babcock on board would also improve the Sabres chances at competing for UFAs in July and convincing players to waive their NTCs to come to Buffalo.
I don't think it's all that far-fetched that Babcock will take the Buffalo job.
Having said that, at the end of the day I think he'll pass on the Queen City and Murray will get the green light to hire his pal Luke Richardson. |

Murray blamed the season on Ted Nolan even though it was Murray who tanked the season to get McDavid . |

Wrong.
Where did it say that?
Link?
Source?
He said some players didn't show any improvement and some took a step back. Truth hurt?
Teddy knew what was happening here, and if he says he didn't, he's an idiot.

Murray intentionally traded away any vets with value and then had the audacity of pinning the blame on Nolan's coaching style. You can drink the Tim Murray kool aid all you want but those are the facts. |

I'm sure Teddy didn't think he was going to get the axe for carrying out the tank job. |

I didn't realize Myers was; seems crazy wpg made that trade then.
I guess it's not as blatant of a tank job then.
Trading one of your best dman with term plus more for a player that is injured? That clearly is a tank job. Good thing Myers was a ufa... |

No, and won't work w/o guarantees

Yeah, this is definitely the deal breaker for Babcock.

STL has a coach and Pitt already said they're not replacing theirs. |

Wrong again champ. He's publicly proclaimed numerous times that he fronts the blame for this season. He dismantled the vets at the trade deadline saying how we need to get assets for free agents since there's no way of making the playoffs. Keep formulating your "facts", maybe someone will take you seriously. |

Wow. What an unbelievably awful take.
Evander Kane is a high quality talent. But yeah, no, god forbid a a REBUILDING team trades for that guy while his price is lowered.
Myers-Bogosian is a pretty equal swap. That hardly hurt this team, if anything it helped us.
Drew Stafford was a UFA
2 prospects and late 1st wasn't even a part of this team. So, yeah, we traded a UFA and 3 future players for Kane. BUT HOLY COW THEY'RE TANKING.
Chump. |

You mean trading away vets that got us to 30th place last year? Some value!

Again, where is the link showing where Murray "pinned" it on Nolan?
Murray traded away most of our pending UFA's with any value. Any GM of a team going nowhere and in their right mind would have done that. Let's not just skew it the way you see it. |
