I have a feeling we won't be trading any NTCs and that Lack will go for less than a 2nd. |

I'm betting one NTC (Higgins or Hansen) goes and Lack goes for less than a 2nd. |

Here's a think outside the box trade;
Trade down from #23 and take Jansen Harkins at #30 (per McKenzie's Final Ranking)
Get a 2nd or 3rd round pick |

Harkins won't go to 30, my guess is he is gone before we pick. |

Fine, then if JB's first couple of choices are gone, trade down. Take a D with the 2nd round pick. |

I have to think we are not going to get much in return for the pieces we have.
The real win is making space for some of these new faces that are coming in.
So let's not resort to trashing Benning when he doesn't come in with a dump truck full of goodies.
Would be nice to see for a change.
But NAH... He will be run out of town before we see the fruits of his labor.
Happens all the time. Bank on it. |

Benning.....Wake up! You're asleep at the wheel.
Keeping Miller, why?
Goalie market is weak for a seller. Better off dumping salary for nothing, and keep Markstrom and Lack.
Don't reward mediocrity. I'm guessing he made some stupid promise to him, and now he's being all honorable.
I'm willing to bet Miller gets injured again and plays less than 40 games. |

The return I hope we get would be...
2nd Rnd (Lack)
2nd Rnd (Bieksa)
3rd Rnd (Markstrom)

I won't criticize him if he isn't able to acquire a bunch of picks or move a bunch of vets as I think those will be difficult to do but I will criticize him if he moves valuable players for poor returns.

Any of those deals would be good. Hamhuis would bring a better return. 32 and entering declining years. By the time we are good he will be what Bieksa is now. |

I agree, I've said before that Hamhuis is likely the best chance to acquire a good asset. I think the D core would be a lot worse without him but his value is high now and there is no guarantee that it will be higher come the TDL.

moondawg Keeping Miller, why?
Moving Miller is the better short/medium/long term option for the team but this isn't a video game. Benning is a new GM in the league and clearly has a reputation to build.
You can't build a winning team entirely on drafting -> see Oilers. You also need to attract UFA talent and be appealing to those with a NTC in place for trades.
Gillis wan't afraid to burn bridges but look where he is now.. |

While I think Hamhuis is the idea veteran to mentor the younger defensemen we bring in, I think the Canucks have to entertain the idea of trading him. That being said, I believe his value is low after an injury season, I roll the dice that a good offseason brings his calibre back to what we are accustom to and you look at the TDL for him. It also gives you a chance to assess other player's offseasons and if there needs to be more spots made for rookies pushing to get in |

With our D core as weak as it is if we're trading Hamhuis for a pick(s) we're going full tank. I'm not necessarily against it if the return is good, just saying.
I know last year the org stated that playoffs were the goal. If it's the same this year we can't trade Hamhuis. |

That's why JB needs to fix the mess MG made, while building a team via trade or draft. |

Hamhuis missed close to 1/3 of the season and we still managed home ice advantage in the playoffs. Trading him is not nearly enough to go "full tank." We are still far too good to go "full tank." It isn't happening. |

I am not a Miller fan, but he isn't nearly as bad as the fans seem to make him out. He had moments where he was bad last year, but he had way more where he was great.
I do agree with Benning that we are far better off with a veteran goalie to help teach and mentor the younger, less experienced, goalie. Keeping Lack and Markstrom would be an even bigger mistake.
Miller is only locked up for 2 more seasons. Is he really going to be the weak link that prevents us from winning the Stanley Cup? If not, then his experience will provide good value in the development of whichever goalie we keep (Markstrom). |

There is no market for Miller . SJ would be crazy to take an old guy like that at 6 mil per year. It was a bad deal. Period.
Matt Cook on waivers , smart move by Minny. Get rid of old players that are paid to much and not worth the money. He is the same age as most of our core
Bening better have a big summer the troops are growing restless and there is more hate everywhere. It is a 50 / 50 split now on the popularity chart. Like I said yesterday keeping all these NMC and NTC will be his demise.
He needs to also move Vrbata for a high piece Burrows and one of Edler or Hamhuis .
Truthfully I hope this is the twins last year too |
