Dude, you don't gotta argue it. You are getting a young, 2 Cup winning, stud, fast as hell skating, durable power forward who plays all aspects of the game. He was a bonafide steal in the 2nd round, was in Chicago before you could say his name and was a KEY factor in two Cups.
He will be HUGE with Johansen. This isn't even a debate, Columbus made a HELL of a deal.
At best this trade will end up even...if Dano blossoms into a top 6 winger and if Asimov can play consistently decent 2nd or 3rd line center...at worst it will be one of the worst trades Chicago has made in decades.
before this forum is bombarded by chicago fans all i have to say is that they should be pointing the finger at their front office for handing out 10 mil dollar contracts to players that probably deserve it. but still puts a helluva damper on your cap.so with that said so happy the young man is in columbus and should be a big part of our march to next yrs playoffs and beyond. thankyou jarmo for fully taking advantage of the system. brandon signed a 6 yr deal with the jackets 6x6 aav
As a Chicago guy that graduated from Ohio State, this is probably the best possible scenario for Saad leaving the Hawks (for me personally ). CBJ became my 2nd NHL team during my 4+years in Columbus, and I am very, very excited to see the Saad-Johansen-Foligno line. Hopefully Saad signs a 6x$6mil deal so I can buy my CBJ Cannon 3rd Jersey....#20 Brandon Saad. Great trade for both teams given the circumstances...congrats CBJ and thank you for Patrick Kane's BEST 2C in his career and a great prospect in Dano. Sucks to see Saad leave but the Cap is designed to keep the best teams down...so it goes. Go BUCKS!
It's hard to say that they don't deserve it when they bring home 3 Stanley cups, but I agree that paying superstars over 8 million can cause, in a salary cap world, problems. Sad to see them move Saad, it'll be weird to not see him in a Hawks jersey.
6 years at $6 million/yr cap hit is right on what I was expecting. Considering Ryan O'Reilly signed for 7 years $52.5 (7.5/yr)...I think this deal looks fantastic.
Very happy this was a 6 year deal and not a bridge. With Bourque's contract off the books next year, plenty of space to get Jenner, Murray, Savard, Prout, Connauton etc's RFA's done next summer (or sooner) and possibly start working on an extension for RyJo before his RFA deal ends. All while leaving plenty of cap space to still work in another player on the defensive side.
But I will also add that Saad has been helped by having 3-4 terrific puck-moving defensemen setting up his and his overall team's offense. He won't have that in Columbus (to start).
I think that's Jarmo's next move, and it's a lot easier said than done.

For all you fans of other teams, which one of you would have let Toews or Kane walk?
Everyone of us Hawks fans believe you got a great player and all are happy for him. Glad he's in the East, and glad we got something back. Little I've seen of Dano, think he can be a good player.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, signing any one player to a huge contract is always a risk, but I think Chicago is pretty safe considering the two players and the production they've gotten out of them. 3 Cups is compelling enough evidence for me. Hell, I'll pay Dalton Prout 10 million if it means we get 3 cups
After seeing what other teams a giving out for players I feel that the Pens and Hawks were fortunate to lock up their stars right now. 9-10 mil is perfect for bona fide superstars. It'll be 12+ in two years.
Saad can stack all that money up in piles. One thing he will never be able to do again is put a Lord Stanley Cup on top of it. Enjoy your day with the cup when its your turn, cause you will never get it again. Greed took over and Karman will get you. You would have always got the money from the Blackhawks, right after your two year bridge contract. Go Hawks Go. Motivates them to win.

CBJ much more likely to win a cup going forward than the blackhawks. The greedy ones were toews and kane both of which will never win a cup again while in blackhawks jersey.
I am surprised they gave him that amount, not what I was expecting , given Kekaleinen went to war over RJ , I guess two Stanley cups on a stacked team is now a viable argument.

Consistency>Inconsistency.
Ryan Johansen was an inconsistent, lazy player his first two years in the NHL. Then he had one good year and wanted a long-term $6.5 mil/yr deal.
Saad came into the league with a good work ethic, plays a stellar 2 way game, won 2 cups, and has played in 67 playoff games scoring 15 goals and 19 assists. He becomes the player with 2nd most playoff experience for CBJ behind Hartnell....at the age of 22.....
So yes, it's a valid argument. Plus, if you think his success was because the team was stacked you didn't watch them play much. Saad is a beast.
