TanMan,
Have you seen the documentary Red Army? I was still pretty young when Larionov and the first wave first entered the league but it gave me a new respect for them, as well as sparked some memories.
Nothing blows up and it does not have Nicolas Cage.....but its worth the watch. |

Mr Tanner, agree on the Nordique, disagree on the logo. Dale Hawerchuk is not on this team. New franchise, new identity.
And may I present the California Golden Seals...

100% agree with you. A new brand is needed. |

What is a Nordique? I had to ask..
The logo is actually an igloo with a hockey stick. This is mentioned on page 3 of the media guides from 1979-80 through 1988-89, and on page 4 from 1989-90 through 1994-95.
Nordique is a term used to refer to the natives of the Ungava region in the province of Quebec (and is taught in grades 2 or 3 in the Quebec elementary school system - or at least it was taught in the 1940s)

As long as there's light blue and the Fleur de Lis, I'm happy. |

If that is the one that Sportsnet aired this past winter that was about Mogilny's defection (at least partly) then I saw a bit of it, but it got erased before I could finish. Thought it was really interesting and would like to see the rest.
I love hockey docs. |

I don't want Las Vegas as 2nd city. Hartford would be the best choice but won't happen. After Hartford I think Seattle would be the best place for a team. What would their nickname be in Seattle - the Starbucks??? |

If it wins an Oscar it probably sucks. You're an idiot. - CallMeIshmael
Yeah, probably. But am I? Cause the Oscars are usually puke-worthy movies like Forrest Gump and like A Beatiful Mind..... Did Die Hard win an Oscar? Did Back to the Future? Showgirls? Total Recall? Indiana Jones? Undercover Brother?
I rest my case. |

You're just going by the eye test here Tanner... You really need to dig into the underlying metrics to develop a proper appreciation for a truly Oscar worthy movie. Have you seen Gump's WOWY's? Literally nothing happens that he's not a part of.
Beautiful Mind? It's like he's playing with an extra winger out there! Check out the Corsi numbers!

Eh, you talk about character development, but then mention Die Hard. Bruce Willis plays the same character in every single movie. He's incredibly boring. Same with Anthony Hopkins. Always, always the smartest person in every movie. That stuff bugs with me with supposed to he "great" Actors |

No I said character development was something movie critics care about. I care about sex, guns and explosions. And comedy. |

They are decent movies, but give me a movie like The Departed over a Die Hard movie any day. |

The Oscar movies generally favour classical, sweeping Hollywood dramas, so the Oscar winners often aren't the key films from that year in retrospect. Dances with Wolves wins instead of Goodfellas. Forrest Gump wins instead of Pulp Fiction. Kevin Costner and Mel Gibson have directing Oscars, Hitchcock never got one. Basically pick a notable director who hasn't won for directing and use the Costner/Gibson comparison, that says it all.
Sometimes you'll have a Godfather, or Silence of the Lambs, or Network that wins the Oscar and really is one of the great films of that year, but Oscar exludes entire genres, plays it safe and uplifting instead of edgy, and is mostly a marketing exercise. |
