Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Will They Be The NHL's Most-Penalized Team in 2015-16? Will the combination of Derek Dorsett and Brandon Prust make the Vancouver Canucks the most-penalized team in the NHL in 2015-16?

No.

Our team took a major step forward last year in the no more diving department.

What it will provide is less guys taking runs at our top players.

I just wish we had both of them when Duncan Keith murdered Danny a few years ago.

I don't think so, our fourth line is going to be pretty solid though.

This is a little of topic but I think benning could be setting us up for a cup run in two years. His draft selections mostly seem to be safe players with pretty predictable trajectories in terms of development and it looks like most of them are going to end up in the bottom nine. I think that so far this will be our line up:

Daniel-Henrik-free agent
sven-bo-virtanen
Higgins-bonino-burrows
conacher/cassels-vey-dorsett

Edler-Tanev
Hamhuis-sbisa
weber-clendening

Markstrom
Demko

For everybody that thinks that the sedins aren't going to be able to produce, there is the possibility that they end up being like thornton and are able to score 70 points into their later 30's. As long as they have a sniper on the wing they should be able to remain productive, especially considering that they're play makers which is one of the more sustainable styles of play. Our bottom nine could end up being the best in the nhl and make up for deficiencies on the first line if there are any.

The happiest player to see Prust is Hamhuis. If Dorsett gets outmatched like he did against Engelland then the refs can ask Prust to get Engelland off before our player gets killed.

I would have preferred a D man like Engelland Despres or Dillon .

I know you are new so I will go easy on you.

You have no chance of winning a cup with Higgins Conacher ( who is not coming back) Vey Burrows and the twins. Zero chance. I won't even touch that bottom 10 D group

Sbisa contract just keeps looking better

Last year when healthy I felt like it was 3 3rd lines that did a decent job of making up for a weak 2nd line but a potential Prust-Vey-Dorsett line definitely is a step back and more of a 4th line than a 3rd line.

That Larsson contract is crazy. That's how you negotiate a contract for a young dman with potential.

Let's see the circle jerk gang rationalize that one.

Why not? The sedins have continued to be productive in the playoffs and a third line of higgins, bonino, and burrows would be pretty strong. This lineup is dependent upon the continued development of some of the younger prospects but is potentially viable. If conacher isn't going to come back then he could be replaced with shinkaruk. The defense is decent and the top three are above average. Weber and clendening would be a decent pairing offensively. The only weak defensemen that stands out is sbisa who can still develop or be traded away and replaced through free agency.

That same group who were younger and faster back then have won 3 playoff games in 4 years . Now by some miracle when they are older are going to win 16 games in one playoffs

Do you expect that the Sedins are going to independently win a series? In the past 5 years daniel's scored 44 points in 49 playoff games and henrik's scored 48 points in 52 games. Their production in the playoffs isn't an issue, the third and fourth lines were the problems in previous playoffs. Did you see the sedins in Calgary? They were one of the only lines that were capable of keeping pace with Calgary's younger players. Bo's line was great as well. Their line and bo were the only ones that actually looked motivated when playing away from home ice.

I will be willing to put money on it. Canucks will not win the cup in the next two years.

I didn't say that I thought the canucks will win the cup, I said that I thought benning was getting the team ready for a run. I think that they could get to the western conference finals though.

I like your optimism. The fact of the matter is, once you are in the playoffs anything can happen. If the Canucks can just get at least some reasonable production from other than the Sedin line, they could definitely make some progress. The problem, however, is that we just don't know if players like Vey and Bonino can be regular contributors. But in two years anything can happen (look at how quickly Calgary began to contend)

I will remind you that the Flames only beat the Canucks in the playoffs, not much to get excited about.

The problem is not the Sedins . The problem is everything else. Weber Sbisa and Clendennibg is an AHL lineup that he has listed as Canucks bottom 3 . Higgins Bonono Burrows as a 3 Rd line with Conacher and Vey on 4 th line

Making the playoffs would be a challenge let alone winning a game in the PO

But they played spirited hockey and put up a decent fight nonetheless. If the Canucks can play that style of hockey then I will be fine with it regardless. And please note, I only said they started to contend - we'll see how things pan out this coming year. That said, they showed a lot of promise and I wouldn't be surprised if they continued to have success.
