Jan Levine: Chris Kreider: Rangers Need to Take Leap of Faith and Sign Him Long Term Make CK20 a key member of the team now and in future

I'm not as big on Kreider as many are but I see this as an easy, binary choice.

It's a given that the price will be cheaper signing him now. The only risk is the years. Sign him long term and one of two things happens: He meets/exceeds expectations and becomes a huge bargain or he falls short and becomes a burden.

At the price he could be signed for right now for 6-7 years I don't think his performance could reasonably fall off enough for it to be a back breaking burden. It's certainly a less risky proposition than the one they face if he goes and scores 35+ goals.

to me, Chris Kreider is all about the playoffs. He only just turned 24 years old and already has 18 playoff goals, 1/3 of them being playoff game winners.

If people are going to go on and on about Nash falling short in the playoffs all the time, then I will continue to rave about how guys like Kreider and Brassard step in up in the post season.

And how the Penguins can't beat us

Kreider is good but also the most inconsistent forward on the team. Clutch though in the playoffs.

Fo sho. He's money for 20 goals a year and that's what 20 goal scorers get paid these days. But I can't see a consistent 35 goals a year until he adds a wrist shot to his arsenal.
