Its great to get some insight about some of these lesser known prospects for me.

I assume you picked the number 10 for a reason? Is Kharia the cut off point for prospects you feel really have even a small but legitimate chance to make the Oilers? Or you just went with ten cause its a good round number?

For me Kharia is the cut off point. A guy with an uphill battle as you mention but has all the required tools and skillsets to be a bottom 6 NHL forward... As long as he continues to develop.

Thanks for the blogs.

I picked 10 because it's a nice round number but also because I think the big lists of 25 that some places run is just too generous. I don't believe a lot of players really have a chance at the NHL. Once you get past 6-7 on most teams were talking about AHL players with no future. Khaira does have a chance to play because he has a unique quality but he was 10 because he is a long shot. There are more talented players though, like Pakarinen who will probably be called up if a winger goes down.

I feel like I could drop any troll comment I want and there would be nobody here to defend the Oil franchise.

Like for example how the Oilers are continuing to spend their assets on unproven backup G and D projects.

Talbot and Reinhart are just the next Scrivens and Ference.

Could be. But that would go against Matts narrative that PC is god and Mact was useless.

1) MacT was useless. Team went backwards, rebuild stalled, poor coaching choices, cant identify defensemen at all.

2) It's extremely difficult to be critical of Chia right now considering the team already looks much better than it did under MacT. However, I did think the Reinhart deal was questionable. There isn't anyone out there who has been unhappy with more than that.

3) MacT was useless. Did I already mention that?

Jury is out. Both have made good moves and bad in their history. As all gms have. But Chia has done nothing so far that has been any different from what Mact was doing. And he has said he's glad he has the peices he does and that we didn't fire sale them when everyone was trying to bend Mact over. Chia has traded picks and prospects for other unknowns and signed UFAs to longer deals with no moves than he should have.

Not at all whatsoever siding with that grumpy old man iggy, but calling MacT useless, is completely due to hindsight, not you saying every move he made, at the time he made it was useless. Come on Hendo, don't tell us you didn't think that when Sucknyk was well sucking, that Mact wasn't a genius for being able to move him and Lasuckarra for anything more than a bag of pucks, which is about what their value was at the time.

Fair points. I liked the Perron trade and the Scrivens move when it was first made (low risk trade). Pouliot looks to be a solid UFA addition too. I agree that MacT was in a tough spot where no matter what trade he would have made he would have gotten less than he should have. However things like the Ference deal and the Nikitin deal, along with the Eakins hire all led to Mactavish's demise.

Essentially (correct me if I'm wrong) you don't like Chiarelli because of the Reinhart deal, as well as the Sekera signing? Jury is definitely out on Reinhart, he hasn't established himself yet but the picks that were traded also shouldn't pan out for at least 2-3 years. If Reinhart can be a strong top 4 player within that time I would call that a good deal. We needed a guy who could play top pairing and Sekera can definitely do that. The deal and length personally I don't think are an issue and what any other team would have tried to sign him for. Don't look at that as an overpay on our end.

I don't like the Reinhart deal at all. Ill reserve judgement on Sekera. I think it's too long and shouldn't have included ntc. Not to mention that PCs prior relationships COST us Dougie Hamilton.

Won't disagree with you on Reinhart. It could end very good or very bad for Edmonton. Maybe a year less for Sekera, but he is a proven guy who has remained fairly healthy, and at 29 should be able to play his whole contract (unlike signing Ference when he was 33).

I blame Sweeney more for costing us Hamilton. While he may have had issues with Chiarelli, at the end of the day, the picks Edmonton offered were better than the ones Calgary offered. That's bad business by Sweeney for letting things get personal.

Yes of course Mact was useless in relation to chiarelli.

Mact was never interested in reinhart unlike genius pc.....

Mact never wanted the best defender on the free agent market.
And not only that, it certainly wasn't mcdavid that made signing sekera possible, it was all on pc's brilliant hockey mind, but mact's failure

Signing a 4th line centre and a big, physical 3rd pairing guy was also something that Mact could've never had the hockey sense to do...

Well said matt
