great write up! i appreciate that sentiment "to teach not embarrass" and its a mantra. that's applicable in almost everything we do in life. passing the torch the newer generation. failure and mistakes are bound to happen but they shouldnt be vilianized for such.
That said at the NHL or International level i think public accountability is lacking in the refing dept. while i fully try and believe the referee is being objective when oficiating a game, there are some calls and some plays that are just head scratchers. because there isnt any discussion about it after, or accountability, the problems seem to propagate or continue in some respects. im not looking for tribunal type stuff but at least some acknowledgement that these mistakes or blantant missed calls are going to be worked on. a discourse with the public like players deal with would be alright.
cops can cheat and be fully biased, same could be said about refs. its human nature for some weak minds. the illusion that the people that uphold rules and regualtions in any facet of life are just and full of heart, is pretty weak, it is an illusion and accountability, especially at this lvl of a public specticle could have more transparency.
