Eh. I'll always be on the fence about this. Even at his worst, he was a solid, 30-goal guy on Bergeron's wing for $5.5 million. But I just don't think he would have ever 'got it' in Boston like he did with a new start in Dallas. Lot of Getting traded was really probably the first dose of reality that he's ever had in his hockey life.

He had a 69 point season at 19 on the Bruins. Why do you think he could not have flourished?

This 100% as further demonstrated by the Hamilton fiasco.

Pointless arguing with most people about these silly trades. I 1000% agree with you though.

Bergy-Seguin-Marchnd was the best line in hockey at the time.
-------------------

Information.........do what you will with it.

WINNERS-Cup
Bos 11 - Seguin 2nd
LA 12 & 14 - Doughty 2nd, Kopitar 11th, Brown 13th
Chicago 10, 13 & 15 - Kane 1st, Toews 3rd, Seabrook 14th
Pitt 09 - Crosby 1st, Fleury 1st, Malkin 2nd, J. Staal 2nd,

LOSERS-Cup
Van - D. Sedin 2rd, H. Sedin 3nd,
Tampa - Stamkos 1st, Hedman 2nd
NY - Nash 1st (Columbus), Staal 12th
Phi - JVR 2nd, Carter 11th, Pronger 2nd (traded for and old. I know)

Notice an odd pattern..........? No team without a TOP 2.........let that sink in......has made it to the Cup finals since the RED WINGS.

Argue all you want about how important those players were at the time of the Cup, but that is a FACT.

The most consistent teams have a bunch of ALL STARS from the top ten picks.

But (frank) it! The Bs are different than everyone else.......and they kinda were with only Seguin from the top ten.

Hence the importance of BOMBING instead of clinging to mediocracy.

EDIT: NJDEVILS24630 pointed out that in 2012 the Devils made the finals with the 4th puck in Larsson. Winners and Losers should point to an obvious pattern.

The Devils were finalists in 2012...highest draft pick was Adam Larsson, 4th overall - and that was after NJ won the draft lottery. other than that (and the Bruins losing the Cup after trading Seguin) you make a good point.

If you're a Bruins fan you have to. Seguin and Hamilton were both gone by age 22.

Given how batpoop crazy Don Sweeney has proven to be, I wouldn't be surprised if he trades Bergeron for Kane straight up.

I was on another thread (Chicago) and I think there is a hopeful, but naive underreaction of sorts there- it was even compared to a surgery and recovery from it. This is way bigger than that. WAY bigger. If the even Grand Jury files charges: Kane can obviously (and likely would) plead not guilty, it would go to trial in anywhere from sixteen to twenty four months- the legal system does not speed itself up to accommodate million dollar career paths. In fact, the defense almost always tries to slow it down, to look for an angle. That's two years he probably wouldn't play. If he takes a plea deal (any plea deal) , then on some level, he is a convicted sex offender, and cancer to any suitors that want him, excluding whatever punitive measures are imposed. My speculation is as good as anybody's, but I know from work a good deal about the justice system, and he is in pretty damn deep- in short, if the DA files charges, he's done.

It's the rhetoric Bruins fans use to sort of justify the trade. "He would've never became the player he is now if he wasn't traded."

In Seguins case it is probably true.
He gets more mins in Dallas then he would on Bruins.
He would have been 3rd line center in Boston. Better fit for him too in Dallas.

Even as a B's fan I whole heartedly agree with this. The Seguin trade was ridiculous and anyone who knows anything about hockey cannot argue the point. Most kids don't mature in their early 20's, factor in stardom, millions of dollars and a cup ring...it's easy to get a swelled head and enjoy the 'party'.

Slow news day writing about Patrick Kane and any possibility of the Bruins.

When Phil was traded, everyone said he only scored because of Marc Savard. For 3 and a half seasons, he was PPG with Tyler Bozak. Sorry, but he exceeded expectations.

The funny thing also is, he was called "Injury Prone" as well. 0 games missed in 6 years.

No one is trading for Kane. He's either innocent and goes back to the Hawks or he ends up in prison. If he's innocent maybe the Hawks do get tired of him look to move him but that's really putting the carriage in front of the horse at this point.
