Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Jacob Markstrom Sidelined, Jake Virtanen Waits His Turn The news wasn't good for Jacob Markstrom after the MRI on his hamstring injury. He'll be re-evaluated in a week. Meanwhile, rookie Jake Virtanen waits for his chance to make his NHL debut as Willie Desjardins choose not to mess with a winning lineup.

This comment is racist, political, and derogatory to women. I am offended and my feelings are hurt.

Wonder why JV is not being used. Maybe they are making adjustments to his game 1st?

I figured they would have his debut at home. Dont they consider his feelings? lol

I think they liked that opening night lineup... who would you take out?

Agreed. Jv will need to wait until someone on the bottom 6 lays an egg and is punished, or an injury occurs

While I can agree with that theres a flip side. Flames will be ready for game 2, hartleys' is good at tweaking the game, we saw that in playoffs. We better bring in a surprise waiting to throw him off....and that can be big hits from JV.

It may be that they are easing him into physical nhl play....and calgary is heavy on it under hartley. Perhaps thats why....not throwing into the fire in game 1.

I want to see JV in the lineup. But you can't really take out Burrows, Hansen, Prust or Dorsett after last game...

With the games spread out a bit, practicing with the team, doing the whole nhl professional day to day stuff is good for the young guys. JV is going to get in soon.

I watched the game wednesday night, and I gotta say, you guys are right around the perfect mix of veteran to young-blood ratio, there are hungry guys waiting in the wing at just about every position ready to step in in-case of injury or anything else, hopefully this is what my flyers will be like in a couple of years, as long as the Sedins continue to work their magic, this should spell a good season for the 'Nucks

Marwood was the culprit but I blame Nucker for everything.

Trying to find the troll in there... Just can't see it yet

Thank you for the kind words. It's still very early yet, so do want to get too excited. Many teams out west are going to be much better this year.

I understand the sentiment that coaches don't like changing winning lineups, especially after the team ended up being the much better team but I would like to see Virtanen get some time in early.

They need more time likely to evaluate if he is ready for the NHL and IMO there is no point taking their time in that evaluation. Get him into games and see if he swims, if not send him back. He needs to play regardless of where that ends up being.

The Garrison trade always baffled me.

We get a 2nd which turns into Vey...aside from the wisdom of that one, why trade him at all? He was our leading defensive scorer (in a bad year) and then goes to the finals the next year while being in the top 10 of +/-.

Did he ask for a trade out of town or something?

He never wanted to leave. I bet he would come back if it were his choice. Benning wanted to get younger. When you look at Vey from his AHL/WHL resume' he is a home run pick. It's too bad he hasn't been able to translate that into the NHL
