Bob Duff: Some Wings still need to get going Detroit forwards Justin Abdelkader, Riley Sheahan and Darren Helm all express dissatisfaction in their performance so far.

I was really anticipating a big year out of Sheahan. If he or Richards don't cut it, maybe someone else.... Larkin? I prefer him to play with Datsyuk or Z but maybe it needs to happen? Just spitballin here.

Larkin has looked good in every Wings game i've seen this season.

Pulk looks solid too, a guy who needs to be putting the puck in the net.

Wings have a fortune of talent up front, perhaps enough to move some for defensive help.

Holland must see the window for Pav and Z is slowly closing; perhaps now is the time to make a trade and improve the D with a top 4 addition and pay the price.

thought id chime in this AM, cheers

What I don't understand is why Blashill doesn't put Pulkinnen at the face off dot and have him set up for the one-timers on the PP like they used to do with Hull and Shanny. The kid has an absolute cannon of a shot. He doesn't get to use it enough.

Always good to hear from you, Wings comment sections are often dead lol.

I agree, Larkin has been one of our best players. I meant at the 3C position, we need to slot someone there who can actually provide some offense, maybe he's the solution?

I don't think we'll see Larkin out of the top 6, especially with the successful transition to and from wing. Sheahan really does need to be that utility 3rd line center. He has the size, is good defensively and can kill penalties. He needs to get tougher on the boards and try to get some greasy goals in front of the net.

Our defense is a pretty big mess. In order to trade for a Dman, we'd have to be moving at least one or two out. Smith and Kindl have very little trade value and Marchenko, Ouellet and Sproul all lose waiver exemption next year. Quincey will (hopefully) be off the books, but that still leaves us with 9 guys. Hoping Holland can swing a trade or two ( ) and not lose some of these assets, while also improving the top 6 is a pretty tall order.

Just a quick LOL at the Ericsson haters. The guy plays a solid game for an out-of-place Top-Pairing defenseman and quietly so (which is what you want from a guy playing above his pay grade). Everyone wants a scapegoat, but the fact of the matter is that if he and Kronwall were deployed as the #2 pairing (as I think would exploit their ages and skills best) with DeKe as your #1 shutdown and Green as your offensive fire-starter, you hesitate to find many more quality Second-Pairings in this league. There is no substitute for chemistry. DeKeyser-Green Kronwall-Ericsson and Smith-Marchenko is a good 3-year solution for the defense. Kindl isn't good enough. Quincey sucks. Ouellet as your 7th.

Outside of that, my suggested forwards when healthy:

Nyquist - Zetterberg - Abdelkader
Tatar - Datsyuk - Helm
Pulkkinen - Larkin - Jurco
Miller - Glendening - Ferraro
Richards (Hasn't played well yet.)
Sheahan (Sucks: just trade him.)
Andersson (Sucks: waive.)

Not including Franzen now. His career maybe over.

Agree to disagree, sir. I've always thought that Sheahan "sucks". He was great defensively in Year 1. After that, he has been dirt-crap in positioning and defensive battling. That, to go along with no offensive improvement. I also cannot remember when he's ever been particularly good at faceoffs. Maybe playing defense in college stifled his ability to improve as a forward.

I say, if you can trade him with Mantha/Helm/Kindl/Quincey and/or picks (and Ouellet if you can get a really solid one) for a defensive upgrade, you don't hesitate.
