Disappointing outcome to a good effort. Schenn had a really strong game with Giroux & Voracek. Mason was rock solid. Gostisbehere looked like he belonged. Lot of good to take out of tonight |

there were moments where mason seemed discombobulated in the net, specifically tracking the puck bounces off the back boards and a small handful of scrambles where he seemed to be sliding all over the crease |

1st line. Check.
Second line. Check.
Third line and fourth line. Holy goat (frank).
Agree on Ghost. His defense, for being what it is, is much better than I thought it would be. Especially his stick work and NZ defense. It's a shame there isn't a Russian national top 4 on the team to help provide some stability. Oh well. Manning it is then. |

missing Jake on those two PPs in the 2nd might have been big, who knows |

And there were also 2-3 times where Quick left room on the short side when he was in his RVH and Flyers didn't hit it. But a very solid game by both goalies overall.
FWIW, I thought Mason tracked the puck very well overall. |

It's funny with Schenn on the first line. I never liked it -- not theoretically but because it has been a failure each time assembled. He likes to play on the puck more than he can with those two dominating it, and he can really get invisible in games where he has to play away from the puck. But he did everything tonight that makes him a potential future piece when he's on his game: he was physical, winning boards battles and retrievals, making heady simple passes, and shooting (a lot). It's still only one game, and for a notoriously streaky player...well, you get the idea.
Is LW1 still the best fit for him? I don't know. I don't think so, but it allows him to work on parts of his game that need improving, namely off-puck play. It shouldn't be ignored that G and Jake were dynamite too tonight. That helps. And Hakstol, who has taken his fair share of criticism here (some warranted) deserves some credit for the scratch. It was indeed the right button to push -- it worked in preseason too after all. I like Brayden, I do, but he's the type of player that, not for lack of effort, needs a good kick in the rear sometimes. (Should've Berube'd him and scratched him 9 straight tbh ) |

Happy retirement Simon!! Although you still need some rehab if you seriously think Philadelphia is the best place in the world to play hockey... Don't you know it's Montreal?!? |

Should've had 2 points but good game anyways. Flyers played well reminded me of the early season Flyers.
Will say it again, 3 v 3 is awesome. Shots were 5 a piece but the Flyers definitely had the better chances, wish this team was better at breakaways. After being denied time after time in it by Quick i didn't think any of the shooters had a shot at scoring on him in the shootout. That must have seem like a piece of cake to him after the chances he stoned in OT.

If Gostisbehere keeps that up, there's no way he's going back to LHV when Streit comes back or not.

Good solid effort. The trick will be to sustain it over the next few games. |

They seemed to manage fine against Chicago after honoring Timonen. Last night's game was also there for the taking and was well-played. Even in the Buffalo game after honoring Briere, the Flyers managed to get a point despite not playing well.
Last year, they played pretty well but had a narrow regulation loss to Minnesota on Lindros-LeClair HOF night and lost in a shootout after a so-so performance against Buffalo on Desjardins HOF night. They lost 3-1 to Tampa on Peter Forsberg night.
Overall, that's 1-2-3 over the last two years on "player night" games. We'll see how they do on Brind'Amour & Watson HOF nights.

i can't even complain about last nights game...there was a few mistakes but over all they played well against a tough team...now if they can compete at this level every game that would be nice |

They failed to get the puck up off the ice and over Quicks pads in OT and shootout.
