It's a safe bet that any deal with the Canucks would start at Tanev. Otherwise, Snow won't be the slightest bit interested. |

Hamonic for tanev and a 2nd wouldn't be terrible.
Hamonic plays with his heart on his sleeve and would be loyal to vancouver.

Tanev I think would be enough for Hamonic. Snow is handcuffed with 4 teams to choose from. Similar contracts (1 mill diff?) at same length and same age. |

I don't think it would be that far off, but if it were up to me...I'd be asking for Tanev plus a little bit more. Nothing extravagant. |

I look at the 4 teams and struggle to find a "fair" D for D trade.
Calgary - Gio straight up? I doubt it. Brodie seems untouchable? Hamilton.. doubt it
Edmonton - Klembom? The rest are a tire fire.
Winnipeg - Trouba seems untouchable. Myers + ? Enstrom + ? Maybe Josh Morrissey + ?
Canucks - Tanev straight up. Edler + or Hamhuis +?
If Snow has been working the phones with these teams for the last 6 weeks, it doesn't surprise me nothing has happened. I know trades of this magnitude take time, but if Snow is looking for quality NHL Ready top line D in return, he doesn't have a ton to choose from... |

With no trade demand hamonic > tanev
But with it it's a lot closer than you think ...bargaining power is not on the isles side |

I forgot to add WPG - Byfuglien but what if he doesn't re-sign? too many question marks. |

Tanev would be hard to part with, but Hamonic would bring some toughness to the dcore that is missing.
Tanev can take a hit to make a play, he does it all the time. He doesn't hit enough though. |

The thing is...he requested a trade. Not demanded one.
He spoke about it today and publicly said that he'll play out the entire season if need be. Snow is trying to accommodate him as best he can, but that doesn't mean he is going to get taken to the cleaners on a deal. He is under zero deadline to get this done immediately, so the Islanders do have plenty of bargaining power. Maybe not as much as they would have had they just put Hamonic on the block under different circumstances, but they still have enough to leverage a deal in their favor.
All it takes is one GM that wants to get a deal done sooner rather than later to offer up a nice package, then his price is set. |

F@ck Hamonic. The team has thrown Miller out to dry every game he played on this road trip. Miller has been far and away the best player on the team this season. If I was him I would be pi$$ed. He came to play and the rest of the team other than a few have just gone into cruise control. WD needs to light a fire or JB needs to do some firing. |

Not worth the risk. Snow will be especially adverse to this after the Vanek debacle. |

Crappy part about moving Tanev is that he is our only RH Dman, it would be nice to ship them a lefty and get back Hamonic who is a righty also. |

If Snow can get a deal where Byff's agent has a deal in place with Snow before the trade happens its a good deal. |

All things considered, VAN is probably the least possible trade partner for the Islanders. |

I see your point for sure. I just think when a player "requests" a trade and it gets in the public, the power then shifts in favor of everyone else. Snow shopping Hamonic to the 4 teams privately (pre media attention) would fetch a much bigger return than what is now playing out to be a player wanting out. Believe me when we say, we have been in this situation before. Kesler "requested" a trade and gave 2 or 3 teams as well. Benning was handcuffed and now we have a pizza delivery boy as our 5/6D... I think Snow is in no rush and will try and squeeze as much as he can, but I don't think he will fetch what the Islanders will probably deserve for Hamonic's Value. |

When players actually start admitting they would rather be somewhere else, and team mates are aware of this, as in Hamonic's situation, it is not an issue at first, but as time goes on it can be.
Maybe Garth will be the one GM that wants to move on from this and settle for a little less? Maybe Garth will take a forward and not so ready d prospect? |

He may not get an ideal return, but it will likely be a quality defenseman...unless someone offers up a forward he can't pass on and also throws in an "ok" defenseman.
Snow notoriously plays hardball, he's not going to just fold and send Hamonic wherever he wants at the drop of a dime. He'll drag this out all season and into the offseason if he has to. |

I would not be too upset about trading Tanev, but hope he could be kept out of any deal.
If you're Garth snow, perhaps you could be convinced to go all in and make a real push for the cup this year...add some talent up front as well as D.
Hamonic for Edler, Higgens and Shink.
This gives NYI a Top 4 Dman for this season and beyond, a versatile 2nd-4th liner in Higgens, who is good on the boards and the PK and another blue chipper to keep in the minors for the future or use as a further trade chip.
Van get's a young/tough cornerstone Dman they require and also free up a roster spot for youth. |

I would have to say that the Canucks have two top D men who are more available to be traded than say Calgary's top pairing, or Winnipeg's Top Pairing. If Snow NEEDS a top pairing defenseman in return, it's Klefbom or nothing from EDM as I think Nurse is untouchable at this point. I don't see Vancouver being the least possible, I would have to say they have a good change. Better than Calgary or EDM anyway. |
