One of these years they will stop sucking. When all these 1st overalls are in their mid 20's I'd say. But will they be able to afford them all by that time?

After next season they have to pay Yak and Drai. The season after it'll be Nurse and McDavid. Those are going to be some pricey contracts. They need to take advantage of the cheap ELC's in the next couple of seasons before they have to go full Chicago Blackhawks and start removing pieces after each season.

The Oilers have $7.5m in cap space with $4.5 coming off next year with Purcell. Yak will not be an expensive resign (if he is still here) considering his performance, and Nurse is on the first year of his ELC. So yeah, your point is complete horsepoop.

Apparently you can't read. I never said they'd be in trouble next season.

I clearly said after having to sign Yak and Drai after next season. They could each potentially pull in $6+ mil salaries. Nurse and McDavid the season after and I believe they will be elite. After proving themselves for three seasons I could see Nurse earning $6-8mil and McDavid could get $10+mil.

If you don't believe they will run into cap trouble with that many elite superstars on their team then you are just in denial.

I found the plural use of sexs to be the best part of that sentence.

I see improvements in Yak but I guess the (frank)er just doesnt have what others do... I am talking Leon or Hall or McDavid... I was always a huge support of his, the guy really tries and tries really hard- but for whatever reason it doesnt pencil out for him on this team and its not for lack of opportunities either... I hope McDavid can inflate his numbers for another team to give us a nice package at the deadline... <-- and yes I cant believe I said that either... Maybe we can package Yak and Ference for something at the deadline

How dare you. I know for a fact they are all fragile because of how I interpreted one of their comments in an interview.

And how dare you Matt! Being so positive and knowing someone connected to Petry. There is no place for that rubbish here.

Its not just those 4 guys but I dont believe Yak will pull in 6+ mil per season if we choose to resign him....we also have no goalie signed for after this year and Jultz contract is up as well so there is a decision...you are right about one thing though unless the cap skyrockets in the next couple of years or these guys take team friendly discounts there is no way we can keep everyone we have now AND resign all of these other guys

I like Yaks work ethic, it's a good example for other players. He only keeps coming up in conversation because he was a first overall. We only know in hindsight that he shouldn't have been. We have seen what he's capable of when Roy was at his side, so, seems like a chemistry thing. But, how long do they keep trying to find him a fit? Do they rely solely on McDavid? They can't afford to keep a player that only gets results if an exact match is there for him.

Frustrating especially considering his trade value is low. He is an enigma for the Oil. I can't think of a viable solution for/with him. Management and fans have given him a long leash. We want him to succeed but what do they do at this point?

They also need to get Talbot's confidence built up. Enough with the goalie carousel. I would be more concerned about that than Yak. If Dubnyk can get things turned around then management needs to take a look in the mirror. I still have confidence in Talbot. (See James Reimer)

The season is young so he can still turn it around but for now its clearly Nilssons team he is starting again tonight and why shouldnt he? he has been the better of the two and deserves a good run of games but with that being said when Talbot gets called upon again I hope its the start of him turning it around....lots of time left regardless this year

In fairness, I would have signed the Staal brothers given the chance. I never would have guessed things to go the way they did with those guys. Just goes to show how difficult it is to build chemistry.

In a way I sort of wish we needed to resign Yak this year and not next. If he plays a full year next year with McDavid and does well it will help his side in terms of contract negotiations. But I wouldn't be surprised if he would sign a 1-2 year deal for around $4 mil to play with McDavid and hope to get a big contract after that.

For Nurse it will either be a bridge deal or something similar to the Klefbom deal, which I hope is the case.

If Draisaitl keeps playing with Hall and they continue having the chemistry they do then I imagine we will try to lock him up at the $6 mil mark like all the others.

I think though when it comes close to resigning McDavid some decisions will have to be made, particularly involving Eberle and RNH.
